Verizon is seeking a Principal Cloud Platform Operations Engineer within the VCP Core Webscale team. This senior role focuses on onboarding and operational support for applications within the Verizon Cloud Platform, including system and network administration for upstream and downstream network elements supporting the 5G Core. The role emphasizes technical theory, documentation, automation, and cloud computing to drive efficiencies. The position involves leading feature design implementations, providing feedback to engineering, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure new features or fixes are tested and rolled out without negative impact to customers. The role also includes benchmarking the platform to meet reliability and performance metrics, and providing advanced support for the Verizon Cloud Platform, including OpenShift (Kubernetes), storage, and network infrastructure. The candidate should be able to identify deficiencies and develop solutions to improve reliability and operational efficiency, onboard tenants to the Webscale Platform, and support a flexible schedule including overnight and weekend work. Participation in on-call rotation for after-hours critical support is expected. The role requires acting as a subject matter expert in container-based cloud computing and automation, leading or participating in meetings with stakeholders (including OEM vendors) on planning, labs, engineering, and operations practices. Mentoring junior team members on design concepts, compute, storage, and networking in a Kubernetes environment is part of the responsibilities. The role also includes escalation support for external teams, driving failure analysis and remediation, and delivering concise weekly updates to management and leadership. What we’re looking for
