We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Engineer with deep expertise in Spring Boot, Elasticsearch, and PostgreSQL. This role is ideal for a pragmatic technologist who thrives in ambiguous environments, can make sound architectural decisions, and is comfortable navigating legacy systems with high technical debt. The candidate will play a key role in shaping best practices, supporting production environments, and driving modernization efforts while balancing business priorities. Duties & Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Spring Boot (2.x/3.x) and related frameworks (Spring Data JPA, Spring Data REST). Manage and optimize Elasticsearch clusters, queries, mappings, aggregations, and performance at scale. Write and tune complex PostgreSQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for high-volume workloads in AWS RDS. Leverage AWS services (S3, SQS, Lambda, RDS, Redshift) to build and support production systems. Provide production support and troubleshooting for critical issues as needed. Quickly understand and improve legacy codebases with significant technical debt. Lead by example in establishing best practices and pragmatic architectural approaches. Make balanced decisions on when to refactor versus when to accept existing patterns. Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Windsurf, Codex, etc.) to accelerate refactoring and development velocity. Requirements Core Requirements

6+ years of professional Java development with deep Spring Boot expertise (2.x/3.x, Spring Data JPA, Spring Data REST). Expert-level Elasticsearch skills including cluster management, query optimization, aggregations, mappings, and performance tuning. Advanced PostgreSQL expertise (stored procedures, query optimization, indexing, AWS RDS). Proven experience in AWS production environments (S3, SQS, Lambda, RDS, Redshift) or equivalent cloud platforms. Ability to improve and maintain legacy systems with high technical debt. Strong troubleshooting and production support skills. Technical Leadership

Establishes and evangelizes best practices through example. Makes pragmatic architectural decisions aligned with business needs. Self-sufficient in Spring Boot and core frameworks—asks questions about custom business logic, not fundamentals. Critical Soft Skills

Thrives in ambiguous environments with shifting priorities and unclear timelines. Pragmatic mindset: prioritizes delivering value over perfection. Maintains professional standards even when working on systems that may be sunset. Nice-to-Have

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is

$150,000 - $190,000 + bonus . Additionally, you will be eligible to participate in our robust medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefit plans. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education/certifications or training.
