Senior Unix Engineer

The Senior Unix is a senior information technology professional within the Datacenter Transformation Center of Excellence (COE) who analyzes existing
nix
architectures and workloads and designs new or complementary solutions for transformed environments, implements solutions, and troubleshoots residual issues after transformation. The Engineer will participate in early project discovery to understand the current mode of operation (CMO) and evaluate workloads to create a Future Mode of Operation (FMO) Design aligned with the company service catalog. The role concentrates on high-level server duties such as system architecture, network design and dependencies, selection of physical replacement devices and assessment of virtualization feasibility, and leads troubleshooting for outages or performance issues during transformation projects. The Engineer will lead administrative resources in implementing the prescribed design and review, analyze, document system requirements, and identify transformation approaches in the FMO environment. The Unix Engineer will migrate Unix and Linux workloads from CMO to FMO using specific tools and industry best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with customers on data center transformation activities to confirm (and document accordingly) existing Unix and Linux systems and workloads, and develop functional specifications. Independently manage all aspects related to Unix workload integration projects. Serve as liaison between the customer, Transition Team and the Datacenter Tower to communicate difficult concepts and processes. Work with vendors and contractors to define detailed technical requirements. Participate in application owner and business user interviews to identify system functions and architectural and network related dependencies. Execute discovery activities to fully identify and document the existing Linux/Unix server inventory. Work with the Datacenter Server Tower to develop and implement the appropriate solution for successful transformation. Consult on complex business issues and design considerations. Identify and document system requirements to enable the Technical Team to deliver the appropriate solution for successful transformation. Participate in the development and execution of the user acceptance test plans and scheduling of testing. Create new documentation and processes to refine, optimize, and establish network functions and processes. Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in an Information Technology Discipline and 6 or more years of professional experience. 8+ years of UNIX (Enterprise RedHat, and/or Solaris, HPUX and AIX) systems experience in a large, 24x7 high availability environment. Extensive experience with older operating systems including Tru64. Proven experience migrating legacy Linux servers to modern virtual environments using products like VMconverter or PlateSpin. In-depth understanding of distributed networks. Significant experience in the administration of SSL certs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong experience with physical hardware technologies for Unix including HP-UX (HP9000), Solaris SPARC, and AIX. Proven experience with deep technical aspects of enterprise consolidation/integration projects. Strong communication skills, written and verbal; experience interviewing end users to gather requirements. Professionalism in all internal and external interactions; ability to analyze situations in a systematic, logical manner. Ability to analyze data points from automated and manual discovery processes. Advanced experience with Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) and VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) or other high-availability services. Experience with Sendmail, Apache, Oracle WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat. Experience with installation and tuning of Oracle 10/11g functions and operating system components for peak performance; Oracle RAC desirable. Knowledge of multi-tiered application architecture; strong system internals knowledge (memory management, scheduling, TCP/IP). Strong knowledge of DNS, NTP, NFS, and FTP; networking (Ethernet, multicast, VLAN tagging); ability to subnet and route; SAN concepts. Ability to compile Unix kernels and kernel modules; strong scripting skills (Korn, Perl, Bash, Awk, Sed; Python a plus). Experience ITIL and documenting as-built operating guides. Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting pay range for this remote role is
$100k to $145k . This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Actual compensation will depend on several factors including location, experience, and qualifications. This position may be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance. This position is eligible for company benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contribution, flexible spending or health savings account, life and AD&D insurance, short and long term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k with company match, and additional benefits.
