We are seeking a highly motivated and well-qualified professional to join our team as a Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer (SME). This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a team of talented and diverse individuals supporting mission-critical operations for the Department of Defense (DoD).
The selected candidate will provide direct, day-to-day support to classified networks and systems within secure environments, ensuring the highest levels of security and compliance. In this position, you will work closely with the Program Manager to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of classified DoD programs and ensure alignment with DoD policies, directives, and mission priorities.
Key Responsibilities The Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer SME will:
Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) of capabilities supporting U.S. Space Force (USSF) priorities
Provide subject matter expertise (SME) in cybersecurity posture, including the design and implementation of security features to prevent unauthorized access and counter emerging threats to classified network objectives
Deliver recommendations and solutions to the government for the effective implementation of cybersecurity programs and projects
Ensure strict adherence to Department of the Air Force (DAF), DoD, and Intelligence Community (IC) standards, as well as government-defined processes
Prepare and provide program reviews, schedules, action item updates, and required documentation within established deadlines
Conduct timely, in-depth research and analysis of policies and processes to support mission objectives
Apply IT security control requirements to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of system data and resources
Ensure all solutions are fully compatible with system and network hardware/software configurations and receive approval from system and network configuration managers
Required Skills and Experience
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
15+ years of experience in DoD environments, including extensive work in SAP/SCI programs within the last five years
Willingness to complete a Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph as required
Strong background in aerospace and industry strategy
Deep knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST standards guiding the cybersecurity process
Recognized subject matter expert with mastery of cybersecurity and information management policies, programs, processes, and techniques
Proven ability to plan, manage, and execute projects from initiation through completion, coordinating people, resources, and timelines to achieve scope, cost, quality, and risk objectives
Ability to provide strategic counsel and technical expertise to program and project personnel
Skilled at conducting analyses, evaluations, and data studies to inform decision-making and recommend actionable solutions
Experience overseeing and refining program requirements, design considerations, and engineering initiatives, ensuring cost, schedule, and technical alignment
Strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills (verbal and written)
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation
Ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders, agencies, and senior leadership
Clear, precise, and technically accurate communication in both written documentation and oral briefings
Education and Certifications
Masters Degree (equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education)
DoD 8570.01 IASAE Level III (IAM Level III with relevant experience may be considered as a substitute)
