Pay: $45,000 - $46,500
Schedule: Includes weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Roane Youth Academy in Rockwood, Tennessee, is a 56-bed residential treatment center for boys ages 12 to 17. The center provides a range of services 24/7, including counseling, education, clinical and medical services for dependent or neglected youth with various mental health needs. The program uses a trauma-informed approach with intensive mental health treatment and offers individual, family, and group therapy, social and life skills training, victim impact awareness, restorative justice programming, and specialized sub-acute psychiatric treatment. Youth typically stay 3-6 months under the intensive mental health track (and 30-60 days for the sub-acute psychiatric treatment unit), depending on treatment progress.

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Activities Coordinator to join our team. If you are passionate about helping youth in need, building confidence, and supporting positive life skills through structured recreational programming, we encourage you to apply.
This role is designed to help youth restore motor, social, and cognitive functioning; build confidence; develop coping skills; and integrate skills learned in treatment settings into community life.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and coordinate recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education programs Interview youth to assess capabilities, interests, barriers, and monitor progress, recommending modifications as needed Provide structured recreational therapy (creative arts, sports, adventure programming, dance/movement, leisure education) Consult with clinicians/physicians and other team members regarding therapeutic recreation goals and program referrals Design and use instructional strategies and innovations that reflect best practices and support the overall treatment plan Create community reintegration activities tailored to youth's physical, emotional, and cognitive needs Differentiate programming to meet special interests, learning styles, and levels of ability (academic, psychological, physical) Document treatment progress and status in accordance with the Plan of Treatment Participate in care planning, case conferences, and family meetings Other Duties Include
Maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality Participate in required trainings and ongoing professional development Support discharge planning and teach transferable skills Assist with group/team activities, indoor and outdoor Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field At least one year of experience in recreational/play therapy, preferably with youth/adolescents
Preferred:
Experience in residential or behavioral health settings Familiarity with Medicaid processes and records management
Skills:
Strong group leadership, facilitation, and experiential education skills Excellent verbal & written communication Organized, self-motivated, team-oriented Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 30 pounds from floor to shoulder height Extensive walking and standing required Must be capable of detecting and quickly responding to client altercations, attempts at self-harm, or escape attempts, including applying approved physical restraint techniques Must be able to participate with clients in active/passive team or individual activities, indoors or outdoors, sometimes during inclement weather Must be able to transport clients Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable Must be free from communicable diseases as defined by state law (to the extent knowledge is attainable under law) Must be able to pass the Professional Assault Response (PAR) certification

Valid driver's license and ability to meet company auto insurance criteria Must satisfy the state criminal background check requirements and drug screen
