AWHONN guidelines, usually 1:1 or 1:2 (2 patients common) Patient Types:
28 weeks+ gestation, HTN, ~7–10% without prenatal care, many Spanish-speaking patients Required Certifications
BLS NRP AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Required Skills/Experience
Vaginal exams (must be proficient; teaching facility RNs often lack this experience) Scalp electrodes Circulating C-sections Newborn transitions, APGAR assignments Assisting anesthesiology IV starts, blood draws Postpartum hemorrhage control Epidurals, amnio infusions Titrating drips: Magnesium, Pitocin, insulin, blood products Preferred: Spinning babies experience (not required) Staffing & Support
Charge Nurse: Yes, free charge OB Techs on unit OB/Neonatologist in-house 24/7 RT support with BVM & T-Piece resuscitator Tele monitoring: Present; cardiac monitor tech handles adult side EFM: CPN Centricity Schedule & Call

6:45 AM–7:15 PM Weekends:
3 shifts every 4 weeks (Nights: Fri/Sat, Days: Sat/Sun) Holidays:
2 of 3 required (eve/day of) Call:
Low census call; optional on-call shifts available Floating
May float to NICU, Pediatrics, Women’s, MedSurg, ICU (with downgraded patients), or RDU L&D RNs may care for antepartum patients Must care for baby for 2 hours post-delivery (if no postpartum experience, won’t be floated there, but must be prepared for antepartum) Other Notes
