Head of Development Position Summary
As Head of Development, you will serve as a senior-level ambassador for OCEARCHs non-profit mission, driving national and international fundraising by cultivating and stewarding high-net-worth individuals and corporate partners ($50K$1M+). Youll focus your efforts throughout Floridaconnecting with prospects in key cities and regionswhile also engaging major donors around the globe. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will lead the strategy and execution of OCEARCHs $30M Capital Campaign, which will support the development of OCEARCHs new headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. As a one-person development team, you will work independently while collaborating closely with the Founder, CEO, board members, and senior stakeholders to bring this transformative project to life. Reports to: CEO Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of OCEARCHs $30M Capital Campaign. Collaborate closely with the CEO, board, and advisors to align campaign goals, messaging, and priorities. Develop donor strategies, materials, and timelines to drive momentum and meet fundraising milestones. Track progress and provide campaign updates to internal and external stakeholders. Major Donor Cultivation
Actively network across Florida to identify and engage prospective high-net-worth donors. Host in-person meetings, site visits, and intimate briefings to inspire and secure gifts. Global Engagement
Maintain outreach to top-tier donors internationally, ensuring OCEARCHs story resonates across diverse markets. Coordinate virtual and in-person events for global supporters. Build and manage a robust giving portfolio of individuals and corporations, prioritizing multi-year commitments. Track engagement milestones to guide personalized follow-up and relationship growth. Strategic Planning & Advisory
Partner with senior leadership on annual development plans, signature campaigns, and donor journeys. Recommend innovative giving vehicles and research tools to accelerate gift cycles. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Marketing & Creative to craft compelling narratives and experiencesboth online and in-personthat resonate with high-net-worth audiences. Coordinate with OCEARCH scientists and executives for seamless, expert-led donor interactions. Representation & Networking
Represent OCEARCH at Florida-based and national philanthropic events, conferences, and partner gatherings. Cultivate a network of conservation, finance, and philanthropy peers to support outreach efforts. Proficiencies & Experience
10+ years raising six- and seven-figure gifts, ideally in marine conservation, science, or environmental causes. Demonstrated success in capital campaigns or major fundraising initiatives. Exceptional relationship-building and presentation skills in small-group and one-on-one settings. Deep understanding of Floridas philanthropic landscape and the ability to expand into new U.S. and international markets. Proficiency with Hubspot (or equivalent CRM) for high-level tracking, balanced with a focus on in-person engagement. Strategic mindset: translating organizational vision into donor-centric engagement plans. Entrepreneurial and self-directed, with a collaborative approach to working across teams and with leadership. Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours to align with donor schedules. Salary & Benefits
