POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for fostering a sense of belonging in campers, providing opportunities for campers to feel achievement, and helping campers build healthy positive relationships

JOB LOCATION: Y Camp - Boone, IA WAGE:

$380/week; Y Camp also provides summer staff with on-site housing, meals, free onsite laundry, fiber optic internet connection, paid training and certification opportunities 2025 SUMMER CAMP: May 27 - August 15, 2026 and will be required to live at camp during that time period. CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS:

October 30, 2025 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure the safety of all campers in cabins, evening programs and various department settings. Volunteer to give speeches, lead songs and skits, teach an activity, or make a difference in a campers Y-Camp experience. Ensure that all equipment is safe and working properly each and every time that it is used. Be prepared to provide alternative programming activity in times of inclement weather. Ensure that you are skilled and able in whichever department that you have been assigned. Successfully balance responsibilities in department with those required in cabin and throughout camp. Report any detrimental incidents to the Program Managers, Program Director and the Summer Camp Director. Notify the Summer Camp Director when equipment must be purchased or repaired. Complete other duties as required by the Program Managers, Program Director, Summer Camp Director or Executive Director. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions. Must be at least 16 years of age as on June 1st of 2025 (If under age 18, must be working with 18+ adult) Previous overnight camp experience preferred. Previous Counselor In Training (CIT) program graduates preferred. Additional training to be completed prior to arrival at camp and prior to campers arriving at camp. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people. Ability to monitor property and activities. Ability to perform moderate physical activity Ability to adapt to changing working conditions Ability to maneuver in a nature or rugged outdoor environment. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to live on-site at camp during the summer Strong communication skills Strong organization skills Ability to work with a diverse group of people Ability to simultaneously manage variety of tasks Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively apply program guidelines to those programs offered to campers and visitors of the Y-Camp.
