Department: PHLEBOTOMY
Schedule: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
POSITION SUMMARY
Oversees the Phlebotomy & Client Services Supervisor, Phlebotomy Coordinator, and the Phlebotomy and Client Services staff to provide direction to the phlebotomists, specimen processing area, Walk-In Laboratory, couriers, and client service tech departments. Develops and maintains policies and procedures for all responsible areas. Has 24-hour accountability for the operations and staffing of all above areas in the laboratory and rotates after hours call. Maintains departmental budgets for Phlebotomy and Client Services. Responsible for overseeing the interviewing, hiring, and performing training and continuing education of all phlebotomists and client service tech staff. Keeps Hospital and Laboratory Staff educated for phlebotomy and specimen collections. Responsible for directing and monitoring PI processes and data collection for monthly reports reported by Phlebotomy & Client Services Supervisor. Monitors and oversees the customer service aspect of all phlebotomy, client services, and point of care areas. Establishes, maintains, and delivers quality and efficient laboratory testing relevant to customer needs using appropriate policy, procedure, staffing, and budgetary management within CAP, CLIA '88, and OSHA standards.
EDUCATION
Works primarily in hospital laboratory setting, and office or classroom/meeting areas. Primarily daytime hours with flexibility required meeting staffing needs. Considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting (occasionally more than 25 pounds). Mental effort required to accesses, plan, and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Likely to be exposed to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases.

EDUCATION
- Meets requirements for position as defined by CLIA '88 standards and the Georgia Laboratory Licensure law (O.C.G.A. 31-20)
- Associate's Degree required in a chemical, physical, biological science, or medical laboratory science field from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in one of the fields listed above. Phlebotomy Technician Certification from a nationally recognized accrediting agency required.
- Required to have at least 2 years of phlebotomy experience with laboratory training. previous management or leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Flexible in work schedule, assignments, workloads, setting priorities and utilizing problem solving techniques.
- Ability to formulate letters, memos, document clinical information, create policies and procedures, and provide learning opportunities.
- Ability to analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues related to patient outcomes.
- Excellent verbal, written, and behavioral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with and assess learning/training needs of various non-Lab healthcare personnel.
- Ability to plan and conduct training for a wide range of healthcare personnel based on objectives and effectiveness of laboratory specimen collections.
- Current valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.
