About The Office The San Francisco City Attorney’s Office is an innovative, nationally-recognized municipal law office serving the City and County of San Francisco and its residents. The Office provides legal services to the Mayor, Board of Supervisors, officials, and departments and aims to deliver effective and responsive legal solutions and representation. Current work arrangements offer a hybrid remote schedule for eligible employees (three days onsite and up to two days remote), which may change to conform to Citywide standards.
The Airport Team The Airport Team is a collaborative group of seven attorneys and one legal secretary, with plans to add two attorneys and one legal secretary. The Team serves as in-house counsel to the Airport Commission, an enterprise department of the City and County of San Francisco, which owns and operates San Francisco International Airport. The Airport serves over 50,000,000 passengers annually, with an operating budget of over $1 billion and a workforce of over 1,700 employees. The Team is located at the Airport.
Position and Responsibilities Deputy City Attorneys on the Airport Team provide advice and counsel on matters related to Airport management, development, and operation. Responsibilities include advising on governance under local, state, and federal laws; interpreting laws or regulations; advising on legal risks of government actions; advising on procurements and drafting contract documents; and drafting legislation and regulations. The Team’s practice areas include commercial real estate (leases and permits), land use and environmental regulation, design and construction, public finance, ground transportation, operations, procurement and contracts, information technology, and managing defense of government claims and litigation. We seek candidates with experience and interest in one or more of the following areas:
Experience with public works contracts;
Experience with advising operations and/or facilities divisions;
Experience in intellectual property matters;
Experience with civil litigation and defense of government claims subject to the California Tort Claims Act;
Experience in municipal, airport and/or transportation law, including matters related to disadvantaged business enterprise programs, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in California.
Desired Qualifications
Three or more years of experience practicing law, including advising public agencies or representing public entities in civil litigation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent legal analytical skills.
Ability to draft and review agreements, policy documents, and legislation.
Ability to assume responsibility quickly, work collaboratively and independently, and think deeply about complex legal issues.
Ability to exercise good judgment, multi-task, and remain curious.
Ability to work with clients in a collaborative environment while maintaining professional objectivity.
Ability to manage a active workload and adjust to workload fluctuations.
Desire to grow in expertise beyond traditional practice areas and to value diversity in the workplace.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
