We are currently on the lookout for Medical Directors who can work daytime hours across all continental U.S. time zones. Primary Responsibilities: Provide oversight for daily utilization and maintain external communication with network physicians and hospitals. Conduct daily utilization management reviews, including authorization and denial assessments. Engage in peer-to-peer discussions as necessary for clinical case evaluations. Perform telephonic reviews with providers, sharing tools, resources, and guidelines pertinent to effective and quality-driven healthcare delivery. Facilitate clear communication with both network and non-network providers to ensure effective administration of Care Transitions' services. Address clinical inquiries and serve as a non-promotional medical contact for various healthcare providers. Represent Care Transitions externally to establish and maintain relationships with thought leaders. Collaborate with the Client Services Team for a coordinated approach to servicing delivery system providers. Contribute to developing strategic initiatives and monitor progress toward goals. Engage and collaborate with physicians, hospital leaders, and vendors regarding care services for enrollees. Provide leadership to maximize cost management in collaboration with network and provider contracting. Regularly meet with Care Transitions' leadership to review care coordination issues and develop intervention plans. Advise the Analytics Team and Client Services Team to enhance Care Transitions' products and services. Manage local inquiries on patient case management, directly addressing or routing to the appropriate expert. Participate in the Medical Advisory Board. Provide intermittent, scheduled coverage during weekends and evenings. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Board certification as an MD, DO, MBBS with a current unrestricted medical license and the willingness to maintain credentials. Ability to secure licensure in multiple states. 3+ years of post-residency patient care experience, preferably in an inpatient or post-acute setting. Preferred Qualifications: Multi-state licensure and readiness to acquire additional state licenses with Optum's assistance. Knowledge of population-based medicine and CMS criteria for post-acute care. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team, managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Competence in completing assignments with minimal oversight. Demonstrated ability to engage positively with fellow clinicians and all levels of medical and non-medical professionals. Experience with electronic health records and associated technologies. Outstanding organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication abilities. Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with colleagues. High ethical standards and integrity. Proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Remote employees must comply with UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. Compensation typically ranges from $238,000 to $357,500, with total cash compensation including base pay and bonuses assessed based on local market factors, education, work experience, and performance.
