Job Summary and Responsibilities
Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in Pueblo, Colorado is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead and facilitate the implementation of quality initiatives and their continual improvement. This role is responsible for site quality engineering activities, leading, coaching and facilitating problem solving, analysis of data and continuous improvement activities related to rail and rail welding.
Provide engineering support to operations: Ensure consistent application of quality techniques across all production processes and resolve technical quality issues
Conduct process stability and capability studies: Analyze existing processes, recommend improvements based on data, and follow up to verify effectiveness
Apply statistical and measurement tools: Use statistical analysis and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) tools to monitor quality performance and validate process improvements
Develop and maintain quality documentation: Create and update Control Plans, FMEAs, and other process-related quality documents to ensure robust process control
Lead root cause analysis: Facilitate and promote effective problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) to drive corrective and preventive actions
Coordinate customer issue resolution: Work cross-functionally with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to address customer claims, complaints, and concerns promptly
Enhance and maintain the quality system: Recommend and implement quality system improvements to increase customer satisfaction, optimize processes, and ensure audit readiness
Support new product/equipment launches: Develop and submit PPAP documentation, participate in APQP activities, and ensure proper measurement systems are in place for new processes or tooling
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgical, or a related field) required
2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial quality engineering role, preferably within a heavy industry or steel mill environment
Experience with Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and familiarity with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC processes.
Training or certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher), quality auditing, or related disciplines is
Proven experience using statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel) and conducting root cause analysis
Experience participating in or leading internal and external quality audits
Knowledge of mill operations, equipment, machinery, and safety practices
Understanding of industry standards, including AREMA (rail), ISO and ASTM
Experience with the use of statistical tools and data analysis (Minitab)
#TAS Compensation
$85,000 - $95,000
Open & Closing Dates: 9/16/2025 - 10/30/2025
