UnitedMasters has built a music distribution service that puts artists first, letting up-and-coming artists distribute their music directly to fans through streaming services while maintaining ownership of their master recording rights and up to 100% of royalties. Through the combination of UnitedMasters music distribution platform and its ties to brands, independent artists and change-makers grow and earn like nowhere else. The UnitedMasters team is made up of musicians, marketers, engineers, and storytellers with backgrounds from YouTube, SoundCloud, Pandora, Facebook, Uber, Dropbox, Complex, VICE, and more. Director of Commerce
to join Translation. This role sits on the Commerce team, reports to the
Head of Commerce , and collaborates closely with the
Director of Label Services . You will also work with the
Director of Commerce, Artist Services
to support the growth and evolving needs of the Commerce department. While the primary focus is on supporting the label services division, you will work flexibly across both artist and label services functions as needed. Hybrid role: three days in office and two days remote. What You'll Do
Manage the commerce function within the Label Services offering, acting as a central resource for all commerce-related needs and opportunities. Own and drive commerce strategy to maximize streaming revenue, audience engagement, and DSP visibility for Label Services clients. Serve as the primary point of contact for key DSP partners, overseeing account relationships, editorial placements, playlisting, and marketing opportunities. Collaborate with labels to refine and execute streaming marketing plans, ensuring strong performance and visibility across DSPs. Support labels in building and strengthening relationships with streaming platforms, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution as needed. Develop and implement streaming strategies that align with label rollout plans and marketing strategies, ensuring commercial success of frontline releases and catalogs. Stay up-to-date on trends across streaming services and provide strategic insights to labels to enhance their digital presence. Represent UnitedMasters' Commerce department in client meetings, acting as the key team member for label clients and helping resolve commerce-related issues. Collaborate with senior Commerce leadership to support growth and needs of the Commerce offering to label and artist clients, aligning with overall business objectives. Work cross-functionally with internal teams (marketing, artist relations, product, etc.) to align commerce strategies with broader company goals, supporting both Commerce and Label Services divisions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Deep expertise in the music streaming ecosystem and a strong understanding of commerce strategies and DSP best practices. Proven ability to manage relationships with key DSPs, securing editorial, playlisting, and marketing opportunities. Strong analytical skills to interpret streaming data and apply insights to improve label commerce strategies. Excellent communication skills to collaborate across departments and with external partners. Creative problem-solving with the ability to think strategically about streaming and digital marketing from both label and artist perspectives. Proven track record in ideating, implementing and executing commercial marketing strategies and campaigns. Experience educating labels and artists on best practices and streaming strategies for long-term success and growth.
Minimum Qualifications
6-8 years of experience in Commerce, Streaming, Digital Sales, Partner Relations, and/or Digital Account Management at a music distribution company or record label, focusing on independent labels. Established senior-level relationships with DSPs and a track record of editorial, playlisting, and marketing opportunities for labels. Demonstrated success in driving streaming revenue growth and visibility for label clients through commerce activations and partnerships. Track record of overseeing partnerships with major streaming services.
