Job Description:

Are you looking for interesting and meaningful work, a fun atmosphere, and opportunities to learn, grow, and excel? If so, then welcome to Schnabel! We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Helena, Montana office is seeking a temporary full-time intern with a Civil Engineering background to support our growing business. Our office is a high-performance engineering design shop with capabilities spanning every aspect of the project lifecycle including preparation of proposals, initial site investigations, preliminary design, final engineering design, and construction management. The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern's practical knowledge and experience by applying professional principles to real problems under the supervision of senior engineering personnel. We aim to provide valuable mentorship to our interns with local, in-office support from staff at all levels and exposure to client interactions, field work, and networking events.

The full-time position is expected to be held from May through August of 2026.

Job Responsibilities:

Assisting in performing hydrology and hydraulic design; structural design; geotechnical investigations and analyses; mechanical system analysis; and drafting using AutoCAD

Reviewing construction plans and technical specifications

Drafting, compiling, and proofreading reports

Assist with development of standard calculation templates using primarily Mathcad and Excel

Assistance with administrative work

Some travel may be required

Required Skills/Experience:

Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor's program

Possess good oral and written communication skills and literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of programs

Ability to work with direction as part of a team

Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work

A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field

Junior, senior, and graduate students

Other Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license as driving is an essential function of the job

Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening

The compensation range for a Civil Engineering Intern is between $18.00 to $25.00. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
