Overview
We are looking for a Project Estimator to prepare accurate estimates for our hardwood flooring projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. You will provide insights into costs and benefits that support profitable business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. You must be thorough and adept at managing relationships with key stakeholders. Responsibilities
Understand the project/program and its requirements Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and architectural drawings to determine scope and requirements Familiarize yourself with unique aspects of each flooring project and determine key variables for cost and other estimates Calculate quantities of materials, labor costs, equipment needs, and project timelines Identify potential cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality Review orders, match samples, and suggest alternatives Gather information from sites, projects, or other venues; access project sites to collect necessary data and measurements Coordinate with site personnel to understand on-site conditions Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, and production times; stay updated on current prices and market trends Use estimating software and CAD programs (e.g., AutoCAD, PlanSwift) for accurate calculations and prepare detailed drawings Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors; liaise with suppliers to obtain up-to-date pricing and evaluate quotes Perform risk analysis and propose viable solutions to mitigate risks Create and submit estimate reports or bids to project managers, clients, or bidding competitions Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, etc.); negotiate terms and conditions Provide planning consultation on schedules, manpower needs, and resource allocation; collaborate with the project management team Qualifications
Proven experience as a Project Estimator or similar role. Familiarity with financial and project management principles. In-depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas. Excellent knowledge of software like MS Office, Excel and Salesforce. Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities. Thoroughness and reliability. Excellent organizational skills. BSc/BA in Engineering, Construction Science, Architecture, or a relevant field. Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other relevant certifications would be an advantage. Extensive knowledge of hardwood flooring materials, installation methods, and industry best practices.
