At the Family Birth Center at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, we welcome 140–165 new babies each month in our modern 22-bed unit, featuring 10 Labor & Delivery rooms, 12 Postpartum rooms, plus Pre/Post-Op and OBED beds. The Labor & Delivery Nurse provides, coordinates, and directs care to individuals and families using a holistic approach. The nursing process is used as a structured mechanism for critical thinking and problem solving in providing effective and appropriate care within a safe and confidential environment from admission to discharge. Each RN is responsible for collaborating with members of the healthcare team, providing leadership, personal/professional development, and conducting him/herself professionally.

Responsibilities:

Triage walk-ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc

Support pregnant patients in labor, including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management and fetal monitoring

Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage and emergency procedures

Educate patients on various interventions or procedures - medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages

Assess newborn and provide care.

Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, the patient, and the family

Qualifications Minimum:

One (1) year of labor and delivery experience as an RN required in an acute care setting.

Associate's Degree, Nursing (ADN)

Current California RN license

Current BLS certification required (American Heart Association)

Current ACLS and NRP certifications required within 3 months of hire (American Heart Association)

Basic AWHONN fetal monitoring is acceptable at hire, but must complete the Intermediate AWHONN course within 6 months of hire

AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring course every two years thereafter or obtain NCC Fetal Monitoring Certification and maintain as specified

Preferred:

One (1) year Labor and delivery C/Section/PACU, OBED, Postpartum/Newborn Nursery Unit experience
