Capital City Press is hiring: Software Engineer in Lafayette

NOLA.com / The Times-Picayune and The Advocate seek a software engineer to work on an innovative team that will energize and reshape our company's digital products -- including how those products function on the back end and how our audience interacts with them on the front end.

This position will be a major player on an important, cross-functional team comprised of two additional engineers and a data analyst.

A full-stack skillset is desired because that depth of knowledge will position this candidate to succeed in sparking a fast-paced transformation of our digital products to help achieve big-picture digital goals.

• Our company is locally owned and is the largest news organization in Louisiana with a staff of more than 150 journalists across our four markets - New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport. That allows us to be agile, to experiment, to succeed - and to fail.
• We believe strongly in the power of local journalism. It's why we want to continue our digital transformation, become more focused on what our readers' wants and needs and build upon a business model that will allow us to publish authoritative local news for another 100-plus years.

A top candidate should possess the following skills:

• Front end: JavaScript (ES6+), React, Next.js
• Back end: JavaScript (Node.js) - scalable RESTful API development; Python - API development, data processing, Pandas for data analysis; SQL - relational database design and optimization
• Cloud Computing: AWS (EC2, RDS, S3), server deployment & management
• AI & Data: AI integration (Prompt Engineering, Embedding Models, Vector Databases)
• Tools: GitHub (Version Control) Application Development: Web and Native App Development

We also will be searching for candidates who bring enthusiasm for the role of local news in the community and can meet deadlines (shame on us as a journalism shop if we didn't mention meeting deadlines!)

Our offices are based in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport. But we're open to considering other remote arrangements.
