The Pharmacy Director directs staff and activities through subordinate management and senior professionals, with responsibility for results in terms of quality, service, efficiency, safety, costs, methods and employee performance for the department. In addition to management responsibilities, generally considered an in-depth, advanced specialist in the work performed by the department. Maintains a broad perspective across the organization and within the community on issues affecting patient care; collaborates with interdisciplinary professionals and teams within and outside the organization to address identified issues. Requires thorough understanding of organizational capabilities across all departments and how they interrelate to one another. Serves as expert point of contact for medication and patient care within communities served. Works on complex matters where analysis of issues, data, processes and situations requires an in-depth knowledge of departmental objectives and in-depth industry and technical knowledge. Results/performance have direct operational, quality and efficiency impact on costs and achievement of objectives for the department and possibly related departments and/or the overall function. Responsible for pharmacy regulatory compliance, including development and implementation of policies to support meeting regulatory requirements. Translates organization's vision and mission into actionable goals and projects. Applies advanced technical knowledge of the department to solve complex problems, which may have long-term impact on the department and possibly the sub function. Provides input to leadership on the development of overall policy and core process changes for the department. Provides input to tactical/operational decisions for the department and possibly enterprise-wide. Assesses and directs strategic staffing needs of overall operation; when necessary, establishes business case for additional resources and escalates to senior leadership. Responsible for performance reviews, hiring, promotions/job changes, disciplinary action, employee development and making pay recommendations. Has latitude to make changes to job design, recommend job assignments and commit resources to longer-term projects/programs/initiatives. Monitors the achievement of profit/loss, market share, operational targets and general performance goals for a department. Provides input to annual department budgets and monitors compliance. Has discretion over department expenditures; can expose the department to limited financial liability. Note on Specialty Pharmacy
When working with the Sanford Specialty Pharmacy, the Director of Retail Pharmacy Fargo will assume the role of temporary leader of the specialty pharmacy in the absence of the specialty pharmacy manager/leader. The temporary duties include identifying a relief pharmacist, overseeing pharmacy compliance and regulatory standards, developing departmental goals and objectives in consultation with administration, establishing departmental policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with all laws governing practice of pharmacy and distribution of drugs. Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Five years of experience required, seven years of experience preferred; previous management experience preferred. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations. License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. Benefits
