Senior Director (SD) USMA Strategy – HIV
will serve a leadership role in the USMA team reporting to the Executive Director of the HIV Treatment Strategy team. The role requires a highly motivated Medical Affairs Senior Director with a strong background in HIV Treatment. The position supports current HIV treatment therapies and potential launches of future HIV treatment pipeline products within the US Medical Affairs organization. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Medical Leadership & Brand Expertise
– act as a scientific expert medical liaison to foster alignment between US Medical Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, and US/Global Commercial teams; serve as the medical and scientific expert for the HIV portfolio, supporting commercial strategy and marketing teams; provide strategic medical input into brand planning, lifecycle management, and commercialization efforts; represent Medical Affairs in commercialization team meetings to ensure alignment of medical and commercial strategies.
Cross-Functional Communication & Collaboration
– communicate medical initiatives, strategies, data timelines, and publication plans to commercial stakeholders; collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, Clinical, Public/Government Affairs and other partner functions to lead or support cross-functional projects.
Commercial Strategy & Advisory Support
– provide medical support for US commercial activities including scientific advisory boards planning, content review, and presentation; participate in Promotional Review Committee (PRC) concept discussions and material reviews; ensure medical narrative alignment and scientific accuracy in commercial materials and campaigns.
Training & Educational Support
– review and contribute to commercial training materials for sales and clinical liaison teams; present at commercial training sessions, including midyear and national meetings; support the development and delivery of training workshops and strategic/tactical planning sessions.
Portfolio & Launch Planning
– support the US Strategy Lead in portfolio management and launch planning activities; align medical initiatives and point-of-arrival (POA) tactical planning with the local cross-functional plan.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications & Requirements
– MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD, or other advanced health care degree with 8+ years of relevant industry/clinical experience in HIV.
At least 5 years of pharma industry experience, with leadership roles preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, visual communication, and interpersonal skills; experience in vendor contracting and budgeting.
Must be fully cognizant of and adhere to regulatory and legal (Business Conduct) requirements for US Medical Affairs activities.
Office-based position in Foster City, CA with the ability to travel up to 25% to attend cross-functional meetings and conferences.
Preferred Skills
Experience in medical information, slide development, medical writing, project and conference management; proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to utilize moderately complex scientific resources across various settings.
The salary range for this position is $281,010.00 – $363,660.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Actual compensation will vary. This position may be eligible for discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary by role), paid time off, and a benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life insurance).
