Overview

The Director Labor Relations reports to the Vice President Human Resources. This position works in partnership with site management and supporting human resources business partners to develop and execute site-level labor relations strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall company labor relations strategy. Additionally, this position serves as the chief spokesperson and technical expert in labor negotiations and agreements and is accountable for implementing plans to ensure positive relations with bargaining agencies. Responsibilities

Direct all aspects of labor relations including labor contract negotiations, contract interpretation and administration. Serve as the lead negotiator of collective bargaining agreements, develop bargaining strategies and present the position of the company during labor negotiations. Assess the risk and impact of union proposals on company operations and recommend collective bargaining strategies, goals, or objectives. Build strong relationships and trust with key stakeholders to influence optimal organizational outcomes in line with labor relations strategy. Provide counsel on complex labor relations matters and advise management on matters related to the administration of contracts or employee discipline or grievance procedures. Investigate issues such as disciplinary actions and grievances and provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolution. Maintain a thorough understanding of collective bargaining agreements and broad knowledge of the unique needs of company-wide operations. Collaborate with business leaders, local HR Business Partner and Legal to provide expert advice regarding union agreements. Review employer practices and employee data to ensure compliance with contracts on matters such as wages, hours, or conditions of employment. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business or related field. 7-10 years of complex labor relations experience, first chair negotiation experience required. Excellent communication, facilitation, conflict management and interpersonal skills including the ability to persuade others into mutual beneficial goals and settlements. Demonstrated ability to influence, communicate and build relationships at all levels. Knowledge of relevant U.S. and Canadian law required. SHRM-SCP or SPHR a plus. Additional Details
