Overview
Benefit Operations Manager at Mass General Brigham. Responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of initiatives that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of benefits operations. Combines operational excellence with leadership to ensure employees receive a seamless customer experience while fostering a motivated and engaged team. Serves as a strategic business partner across the Mass General Brigham system, overseeing the administration and execution of employee benefits such as health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, and accrual programs. Leads a team of benefits professionals, addresses concerns, promotes engagement, and cultivates a positive workplace culture. Responsibilities
Align operational strategies with MGB’s organizational goals and workforce needs. Optimize benefits delivery and coach team members to support their professional growth and development. Drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance, and shape a supportive and effective benefits program for employees. Engage and support the team through regular 1:1 meetings, team discussions, goal-setting, and metric reviews. Provide coaching and ensure timely completion of performance evaluations. Oversee staffing decisions, including onboarding, offboarding, and workforce planning, while managing departmental budgets. Establish, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures to ensure effective operations of benefit responsibilities and compliance with regulations, contract requirements, and policies. Hold vendors accountable for performance guarantees, conduct routine and annual meetings, address concerns, and manage contract updates. Oversee case resolution to meet SLAs, identify trends, rebalance workloads, and maintain efficiency. Lead service recovery efforts by analyzing problem areas and driving process improvements to enhance service quality. Track deadlines, update project schedules, and prioritize work to meet business objectives. Lead implementations and provide subject matter expertise for systemwide initiatives. Contribute to the Claims Committee by reviewing cases and providing feedback to vendors and the Benefit team to enhance customer experience. Partner with Benefit Center of Expertise, Local Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Employee/Labor Relations and other key departments to implement, streamline, and enhance benefit operations. Performs other duties as assigned according to business needs. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor\'s Degree or related field required. Experience: 5-7 years in benefit operations or a related field; 1-2 years in a management role. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset. Ability to operate at a high strategic level and in a hands-on execution role. Strong decision-making and leadership skills; ability to build and manage high-performing teams. Change management experience with respect to organizational culture. Experience with Mass General Brigham software (e.g., UKG, Workday, ServiceNow).
