Senior Consultant | US Legal Recruiter | Career Consultant partnering with legal professionals from Associate to Partner️ About the Company A leading global financial services firm is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join its U.S. legal team in New York or Chicago. This senior-level role will partner closely with business leadership and the head of the legal function to provide strategic guidance across a wide spectrum of legal and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, is comfortable navigating complex regulations, and enjoys collaborating with both executives and cross-functional teams. About the Role Advise the business on regulatory compliance, with an emphasis on broker-dealer operations, trading rules, and securities/commodities regulations. Provide legal support for corporate governance, entity management, and board-level matters. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial and trading agreements. Support business initiatives by assessing legal risk and offering pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice. Partner with internal teams to design and implement internal policies and compliance controls. Monitor changes in U.S. and international regulatory frameworks and counsel stakeholders on potential impacts. Engage and manage external counsel for specialized matters, including litigation and transactions. Mentor junior colleagues and model sound judgment, ethics, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in New York or Illinois (or eligible for in-house counsel registration). Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience, including at least 3 years in a law firm or private practice; prior in-house experience is highly valued. Background in the financial services sector, ideally with exposure to trading or execution services. Familiarity with the Securities Exchange Act, SEC and FINRA rules, and/or the Commodity Exchange Act, CFTC, and NFA regulations. Experience with M&A, venture investments, or financing transactions is a plus. Strong drafting, negotiation, and research skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers. Capable of juggling multiple priorities, driving projects forward independently, and adapting quickly to new subject areas. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common legal research tools; comfort with collaboration platforms (e.g., Confluence, JIRA) is a bonus.
