Global Commercial Head, Immunology Cell Therapy
Location: Boston The opportunity: Cell therapy has the potential to change the treatment paradigm of autoimmune disease, offering a new modality that may provide deep and durable response in difficult to treat, chronic diseases. AstraZeneca is establishing a portfolio of cell therapy options to address multiple autoimmune and neurology diseases, in collaboration with the oncology and rare disease business units. The Global Commercial Head of Cell Therapy reports directly to the Global Vice President, Strategy and Early Commercial for Respiratory and Immunology and will collaborate widely with global functions (R&D, Business Insight / Analytics, Finance, Medical Affairs, Pricing & Market Access) and local Marketing Companies, particularly in the US. Close collaboration with global oncology and rare disease business units will also be key to success. In this role, you will be accountable to evolve the global commercial strategy for immunology cell therapy, develop critical insights to drive our approach and define the go-to-market model. You will collaborate with the US leadership team and Global Immunology Cell Therapy Commercial and R&D colleagues to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions that serve the enterprise and the US marketing company. Ability to inform, influence and engage senior stakeholders within the AstraZeneca US business is critical. The successful candidate must be a very strong matrix leader, a good communicator and a well-rounded global commercial leader, with a specific appetite for cross-functional collaboration and entering yet-to-be established commercial markets. Clear strategic thinking with the ability to lead and demonstrate passion for the brands and future technology is required, given AZ’s aim to be a future leader in cell therapy across multiple diseases and settings. Key Duties And Responsibilities
Lead commercial strategy for the clinical stage cell therapy asset, collaborating with R&D to ensure robust and compelling positioning and competitive differentiation Lead development of immunology go-to-market strategy, including overall customer engagement model across business units, role definitions and resource requirements Work with regions and key markets, in particular the US, to ensure consistent execution of the strategy, launch readiness and market and customer understanding Input commercial components of strategic options to support investment decisions for future opportunities for the AZ cell therapy franchise (both LCM and new assets/technologies) Collaborate with external disease experts and represent the view of the customer and patient in global teams Lead and deliver the financial planning cycle for LTP including brand budget needs and revenue projections Represent the commercial view in cross-functional fora to inform strategic decisions for products in line with longer-term commercial objectives, relevance for patients, customers and markets Skills & Capabilities
Commercial experience with successful execution and delivery Strong strategic thinking and financial acumen Ability to navigate R&D and commercial organisations and governance bodies Sound decision making and problem solving Proven ability to collaborate across functional boundaries Demonstrated ability to translate ideas to action Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to operate in an ambiguous setting to develop compelling commercial opportunities where a new market needs to be established Strong scientific and clinical development acumen to work with and challenge R&D Education
Requirements / Qualifications
Business, Medical or Life sciences degree Experience
Experience in cell therapy commercialization (local or global) Experience in immunology or specialty care chronic disease 10+ years in the pharmaceutical sector including local US market experience Broad commercial experience including pre-launch and launch to facilitate development of go-to-market strategy Proven experience and knowledge of a broad base of external customers including patients, prescribers, payers and providers Experience leveraging clinical data to shape brand strategies and lifecycle planning Experience with revenue forecasting, budget/expense management Evidence of developing compelling business cases Experience working with medical, clinical professionals, scientific societies and patient advocacy groups Experience collaborating on a product across multiple business units and influencing without authority Other Qualifications
An advanced degree (MBA, MSc or PhD) is preferred The annual base pay for this position ranges from $270,222 to $405,332. Base pay offered may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The role offers a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in equity-based long-term incentive programs for salaried roles, retirement contributions for hourly roles, and commission eligibility for sales roles. Benefits include a qualified retirement program (401(k)); paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and health benefits (medical, prescription drug, dental, vision) according to plan terms.
