Position Overview
The VP of Platform Engineering is responsible for leading the modernization of the Zelis Price platform over the next three years. The Price platform supports products that optimize healthcare pricing and payment accuracy to ensure fair and transparent transactions between payers and providers. This role focuses on building a modern, scalable architecture to support the growth of the Price business, enabling product innovation and operational efficiency. You will drive the transformation of the platform into a state-of-the-art solution that includes a robust API marketplace, a robust data layer, and a modern app framework to consolidate multiple portals. You will integrate AI and data into the platform, ensuring the engineering team harnesses data-driven insights and builds AI-driven solutions that enhance the platform’s capabilities. Key Responsibilities
Technology Modernization and Platform Scalability – Lead end-to-end modernization to a scalable, reliable, and secure solution supporting growth and evolving customer needs. Architect and implement a modular, scalable architecture capable of large transaction volumes, real-time processing, and high availability (24/7/365). Develop a modern API marketplace enabling seamless integrations with third-party applications, partners, and customers. Build a modern App framework to consolidate multiple customer-facing portals and streamline user experience. Implement a data fabric to unify data across the organization for real-time processing, analytics, and AI-driven insights. Design and implement an event-driven architecture for real-time processing, automation, and notifications. AI and Data Strategy – Incorporate AI and machine learning into the Price platforms to drive data-driven decision-making and automation. Develop and execute a strategy for advanced analytics and AI models to improve transaction accuracy, fraud detection, and operational efficiency. Implement real-time monitoring and predictive analytics to optimize performance and prevent issues before they affect customers. Integrate data governance, security, and compliance measures aligned with HiTRUST, PCI-DSS, and SOC2 standards. Collaborate with data teams to create a unified data strategy ensuring data quality, governance, and accessibility. Enabling Product Engineering and Collaboration – Partner with the VP of Product Management & Engineering to ensure a modern platform supports the product roadmap and customer needs. Maintain underlying technology infrastructure that enables rapid innovation and deployment of features. Equip product teams with tools, frameworks, and APIs for a seamless user experience across touchpoints. Collaborate to consolidate multiple portals into a unified App Store framework. Leading the Technology Transformation – Drive the three-year transformation agenda, manage risks, and align with business growth and needs. Oversee migration from legacy systems to modern architectures with minimal disruption. Enforce best practices for modern software development, including Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and security-focused practices. Maintain a focus on security, compliance, and risk management throughout modernization. Building and Leading High-Performing Teams – Lead and scale an engineering organization to deliver the modernization agenda while ensuring operational excellence. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning; drive recruitment and professional growth. Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work with product management, operations, infrastructure, and compliance to align on the transformation roadmap; report to CTO and leadership; partner with infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance. Operational Excellence and Risk Management – Ensure high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance; implement real-time monitoring and alerting; establish KPIs; embed risk management in engineering processes. Qualifications
15+ years of technology leadership with a focus on platform modernization and engineering transformation in large-scale, mission-critical environments, preferably in payments or financial services. Proven track record leading complex modernization programs, including migrating legacy systems to cloud-based architectures. Experience building scalable platforms, API marketplaces, data fabrics, and event-driven architectures with strong cloud infrastructure knowledge. Experience incorporating AI, ML, and data strategies with emphasis on analytics and automation. Strong background in API development, microservices, and real-time transaction processing. Extensive experience with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD; focus on rapid delivery and operational efficiency. Leadership ability to scale engineering organizations and deliver large-scale transformations. Understanding of security, compliance, and risk management in payments or regulated industries (PCI-DSS, SOC2). Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to influence executives and cross-functional teams. Key Competencies
