Job Summary

As the leader of Sur Legal Collaborative, the Executive Director will advance the organization by leading its core fundraising, staff oversight, advocacy, and strategic planning. The overall role is to ensure the organization's sustainability and growth while staying true to its vision and mission. Core responsibilities include cultivating and expanding donor relationships, developing fundraising initiatives, leading grant prospecting and proposals; administering day-to-day activities, including budget management; and ensuring fiscal soundness, effective internal and external communications, fund development, and programs that meet constituent needs. The Executive Director must be located in, or willing to relocate to, Georgia and will have a working knowledge of and deep commitment to labor rights, immigration law, and racial and economic justice. They should have a proven track record in leadership roles, with the ability to sustainably manage and inspire a diverse team. The ideal candidate also has a strong understanding of organizational operations (budgeting, finance, human resources), strategic planning and major fundraising, legal strategies relevant to Sur's issues, and knowledge of the communities we serve. This role holds overall responsibility for Sur's staff of 10 employees, and supervision of three direct reports at present. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors. Roles And Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

Serve as the primary face of the organization and spokesperson, communicating the history, programs, and vision Develop the organization's annual budget and oversee financial management in partnership with key staff Conduct financial scenario planning and oversee submitting the annual budget to the Board of Directors Approve purchases and spending; review monthly spending reports Oversee organizational grant management and compliance Foster a positive organizational culture grounded in commitments to a healthy workplace and meaningful impact Equip managers with skills and resources to manage their teams for results and growth Build expertise on immigrant rights, labor rights, and workplace safety issues locally and nationally Provide in-house labor law expertise when needed by giving feedback on labor-related work, training, and materials Engage the Board of Directors in meaningful participation to advance goals Recruit and sustain a healthy, diverse governing board Conduct quarterly board meetings to update the board on impact, health, and compliance Fundraising

Develop and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the mission Collaborate with the Board and stakeholders to set fundraising priorities Oversee grant writing, reporting, prospecting, and donor stewardship Ensure fundraising meets annual goals and expands mission reach Maintain knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fund development and improve efforts with Board collaboration Strategic Planning

Develop and implement strategic planning processes aligned with the mission Lead implementation and evaluate program outcomes, ensuring effectiveness and relevance Coordinate strategies, teams, partners, and accountability systems Organizational Advocacy

Act as the organization’s spokesperson at public events Delegate representation to appropriate staff for events Develop and maintain relationships with media to secure coverage Support development of a marketing and communications strategy to increase visibility Required Experience and Qualifications

Several years of experience in a leadership or senior management role, preferably in a nonprofit Experience managing budgets over $1 million Several years of experience managing diverse and growing teams Grassroots advocacy experience in labor and/or immigration rights Strong project and time management skills in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally and linguistically responsive services Strong leadership skills to inspire and motivate teams Preferred

Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis Ability to build partnerships with community organizations and underserved communities Experience representing workers in labor cases JD degree and active bar admission in any state or DC Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, salaried, non-exempt position. Based in Georgia, primarily remote with in-person obligations as needed. Salary range: $100,000-$115,000. Sur offers a robust benefits package including a 4-day work week, medical, vision and dental insurance, unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, year-end office closure, and an annual wellness stipend.
