Overview

We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Senior Director of Data Solutions to lead delivery and support of a complex data environment for our US and Bermuda insurance business. Reporting directly to the CIO, this role will align data technology investments with business strategy, ensuring that the right work is prioritized, funded, and delivered to maximize value across the division. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data engineering strategy, data platform technologies and practices, and enterprise transformation, with the ability to collaborate across business and IT leadership to drive strategic outcomes. Responsibilities

Work with Markel executives and Specialty leaders to align the Data & Analytics strategy to Markel's business goals Facilitate the development of, own, and advance Markel’s Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Analytics Platforms Collaborate with business leaders and IT to implement the Data & Analytics vision, aligning it to technology solutions and strategic roadmaps Manage a team of Data & Analytics professionals, including data engineers and data scientists, advancing a "test and learn" environment, pushing boundaries in how to incorporate advanced analytics into underwriting and claims processes Lead Data Transformation initiatives and establish delivery accountability and KPIs/metrics Conduct gap analysis between existing systems and target state architecture; develop plans to address data limitations and improve availability and usage through a prioritization framework Collaborate with Change Management & Communications and Business Leaders to manage change towards using a consolidated data platform for reporting and analytics Qualifications

15+ years of experience in data solutions & management, data strategy, and/or data & analytics Ability to collaborate and partner with stakeholders across the insurance value chain and gain buy-in Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions and drive results Flexible, adaptable, and resilient, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment Excellent leadership and team management skills; track record of developing talent Superior verbal and written communication skills Preferred Attributes

Insurance or financial services industry experience Demonstrated success in environments with value stream-based organization structures Experience with Microsoft Data Platforms US Work Authorization
