Chariot Energy is a retail energy provider based in Houston, Texas. The goal is to provide products and services customers love and an unmatched experience in the retail energy market. Chariot Energy aims to become one of the leading energy retail providers within 5 years of launch. The position is part of Chariot Energy’s Energy Analytics team. The Senior Data Scientist will oversee the entire data science pipeline for wholesale applications, including load forecasting, price formation, and trading algorithms. This includes R&D, model development, pre- and post-model analytics, model deployment, and management of the ML model library. The role will leverage AI/ML modeling techniques to inform decisions, optimize operations, mitigate risks, and drive business growth. Reporting to the Head of Energy Analytics, this role requires a self-motivated, collaborative individual with deep expertise in AI/ML modelling and a solid understanding of ERCOT and PJM market fundamentals and emerging trends. The employee may be required to perform other job-related duties as requested by management. The position will be based in the Chariot Energy Houston office, with the ideal candidate within commutable distance to Houston. All duties will be assigned in accordance with applicable laws and company policies. Compensation

Responsibilities
As part of Chariot Energy’s Energy Analytics team, develop innovative solutions to wholesale analytical needs including load and price forecasting using state-of-the-art machine learning and predictive modeling techniques Coordinate the entire ML lifecycle including pre-model analytics, model selection, feature engineering, post-model evaluation and model refinements Coordinate model deployment efforts including integration into downstream business processes and tracking performance metrics Develop a comprehensive data visualization layer to enable intuitive understanding of analytical drivers by business stakeholders Work with the technology team and proprietary data to extract business intelligence and actionable insights that impact the company’s bottom line Communicate technical details of modeling to key stakeholders and partners to drive impact and enable decision making
Required Qualifications
Strong technical knowledge on time series modeling (GBM, LSTM) and deep learning/generative AI (CNN, VAE, GAN) 10+ years of industry experience applying these techniques in business contexts Thorough understanding of analytical drivers in the energy industry including weather, consumption patterns, wholesale and retail prices, particularly for ERCOT and PJM markets Advanced degree, preferably Ph.D., in Engineering, Math, Physics or related field Strong problem-solving skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to business stakeholders Proficiency in Python, SQL, visualization tools (Plotly, PowerBI), ML packages (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and hyperparameter tuning (Optuna) Proven track record in managing complex projects and leading cross-functional teams Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical teams Eligible to work in the USA for any employer without sponsorship
