Overview
Warman O’Brien is partnering on the appointment of a Strategic Operations Consultant - Early Discovery. This is a unique opportunity to support early-stage R&D teams in cosmetics and consumer health as they advance novel ingredients and biological assets through the earliest phases of discovery. Suitable for someone with pharmaceutical or biotech experience in a strategic, business-focused role, particularly within a life science consultancy or venture capital environment. Key Responsibilities
Act as a strategic partner to early discovery scientists, helping to shape asset-level decisions at the earliest points in the pipeline. Liaise with R&D and drug product leads to align scientific priorities with resource allocation, timelines, and commercial potential. Translate scientific progress into business insights—forecast revenue potential, inform prioritisation, and drive investment decisions. Represent operational and commercial thinking within cross-functional teams, contributing to strategic planning across early-stage programs. Work closely with senior stakeholders and the C-suite to ensure alignment of scientific activities with broader company goals. Required Skills & Experience
Minimum BSc in a life science field; advanced degree or MBA is a plus. Prior hands-on research experience with an understanding of early drug discovery. Industry experience in pharma, early-stage biotech, or a life science consultancy (excluding Big 4); VC exposure is a plus. Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and translating complex science into actionable business strategy. Highly analytical, resourceful, and capable of making data-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment. Based in the US or open to working with a US-headquartered organisation.
