Role on the Team – Position Summary:
Applies professional and/or regulatory knowledge and expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and leads one or more program(s) within a single discipline. This position provides strategic oversight with respect to the Medical Center's Hazardous Waste Management Program and Safety Programs under the Environment of Care purview. Under general direction, this position designs, develops, implements and oversees programs to identify and mitigate safety hazards to promote a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors. Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight of the Hazardous Waste Management Program and related Safety Programs within the Environment of Care purview. Design, develop, implement, and oversee programs to identify and mitigate safety hazards in the healthcare setting. Lead one or more EH&S program(s) within a discipline, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Collaborate with hospital leadership and departments to foster a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Represent the organization with state and federal authorities and community groups as needed. Required Qualifications
Two years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental health and safety program plus one year in a hospital emergency management program. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English, including advanced political acumen to communicate with diverse constituencies in a highly political environment. Certification in Healthcare Safety Professional Program or HAZWOPER; Bachelor’s degree with a major in Environmental Health & Safety, engineering, business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced ability to represent the organization to state and federal authorities and community groups. Advanced or expert knowledge across EH&S fields and the ability to manage projects within budget and time constraints. Advanced analytical and organizational skills; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of computer software programs, including MS Office. Experience in administrative analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated managerial/leadership experience in a healthcare setting. Certified Hospital Safety Professional (CHSP). Conditions of Employment
