Overview Req#: 30305 THE OPPORTUNITY Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), the flagship campus of Indiana University and a member of the Association of American Universities, invites applications and nominations for a visionary leader to serve as the next Dean of the School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B).
The School of Public Health-Bloomington, founded in 1946, today serves more than 3,700 undergraduate and 450 graduate students with faculty and staff of more than 375, on an annual budget of approximately $55 million. The School encompasses five academic departments of Applied Health Science; Environmental and Occupational Health; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Kinesiology; and Health and Wellness Design. SPH-B also houses prominent academic centers, institutes, working groups, and laboratories that together span the fields of population health and wellness locally and internationally. Since its renaming to a School of Public Health in 2012, SPH-B has continued to expand its educational offerings and scholarly reach, with research expenditures in the most recent year topping $26 million, a 20% increase over the last five years.
The new SPH-B Dean will pursue a competitive strategy that will further establish the School’s distinctive brand as an innovative and entrepreneurial school focused on transformative pedagogy, impactful scholarship, and improving health in Indiana and beyond. The Dean will engage internal and external stakeholders in the critical work of the School and find willing partners throughout the state of Indiana and beyond who will further SPH’s mission, broaden its reach, bring significant new resources, and amplify its impact. The Dean of the School of Public Health-Bloomington reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at IU Bloomington and is the chief academic and administrative officer of the School. S/he will lead more than 225 faculty members and 150 staff in developing and articulating a clear vision for the next stage of the School’s development and will work closely within the School and across the campus and community to realize that vision. Direct reports to the Dean include assistant and associate deans, operational directors, and support staff. More information on the School can be found online. The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial and visionary leader and scholar who will inspire faculty, students, staff, alumni, donors, and friends to engage in the work of advancing the School’s upward trajectory. The dean will be a champion for teaching and research, have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, high energy, political astuteness, and a personal style that engenders trust and respect. The Dean will be visible in the IU community, have an appreciation and passion for the mission of public higher education, and be a compelling public representative of SPH-B to the world.

Lead the School of Public Health-Bloomington, including more than 225 faculty and 150 staff, in developing and articulating a clear vision for the School’s next stage of development.
