Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Aurora is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join the Safety team. This position is based in Mountain View, California, but travel to other parts of North America (including Bozeman, MT, other Pac NW locations and Texas terminals) is required. Travel time is estimated to be less than 25% of working time. Responsibilities

Program Ownership & Regional Leadership: Serve as the first point of contact and onsite EHS representative for Aurora’s West Coast facilities. Own end-to-end occupational safety program execution for West Coast sites, including stakeholder engagement, compliance, audits, investigations, and communication strategy. Manage inventory, SME oversight, change control, and assurance planning for all equipment designated as high-risk. Continuously pursue improvement initiatives to increase EHS program effectiveness. Oversight and support of local Site Safety Leads (SSLs), including their recruitment, training, workload balancing, assignment and performance metrics. Compliance & Technical Oversight: Maintain subject matter expertise in Federal, State (especially California), and Local safety regulations including OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ANSI, and EPA. Ensure compliance (Federal, State, and Local requirements) across key areas such as training, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, laser safety, waste management, and DOT Hazmat shipping. Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), manage documentation in Cority (for EHS incidents, site audits, questionnaires, findings and actions, etc.), and support waste stream tracking and reporting. Manage industrial hygiene sampling data, including noise dosimetry, vibration analysis, air sampling, and lighting assessments. Organize and lead emergency preparedness drills, analyze results, and implement process improvements. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Safety Culture: Partner with other Safety Department teams in Safety Culture, Issue Management, Governance, Risk Assessment and Operational efforts. Collaborate with Workplace, IT, Operations, Service Engineering, and Hardware to embed EHS practices into daily operations. Author, review, and enforce EHS policies and assist with document control; maintain formatting, visibility and accessibility of documentation. Conduct investigations, as appropriate in response to incidents within scope of responsibility. Lead by example to model safety as a core value that is integrated into all aspects of Aurora’s operations. Qualifications

Required

— 5+ years of dedicated EHS experience in an industrial, manufacturing, R&D, or technology environment. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field. Strong familiarity with California-specific safety regulations, OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ANSI and safety standards including but not limited to LOTO, Hazard communication, Fire Life Safety Code, food safety, PPE, emergency response, and other standard safety policies. Highly motivated, persistent, and dedicated. Ability to prioritize, make decisions independently, and manage multiple responsibilities in high-risk environments. Excellent ability to reason, make decisions and exercise independent judgment in various situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build effective relationships across all levels. Ability to work independently across geographically distributed teams. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to other U.S. sites as needed. Desirable

— Experience in high-tech, manufacturing, vehicle, or fleet operations safety. OSHA 30-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). ASP or CSP certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). 40-hour HAZWOPER certification. Experience with EHS program development, safety training across all levels, and change management. Proficiency with Cority or other EHS data management software. Experience with waste management programs, laser safety, and fleet safety. Compensation & Benefits

The base salary wage range for this position is $108K-173K per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits. Working at Aurora
