Summary Responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and promoting a culture of safety within the hospital. This role supports hospital-wide patient safety initiatives and risk mitigation, conducts proactive risk assessments and retrospective risk reviews, and collaborates with hospital leadership and staff to improve safety and quality of care. The specialist will coordinate projects across multiple departments, mentor staff, and adapt as the role evolves in a change management environment. Essential Functions Develop, implement, and oversee quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes. Promote and cultivate a culture of safety within the hospital. Engage staff in safety initiatives and reporting. Monitor and analyze quality metrics (patient outcomes, readmission rates, and other indicators). Lead or participate in performance improvement projects related to patient safety and quality of care. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality reporting requirements. Collaborate with patient experience teams to assess and improve the patient experience. Analyze and report on quality and safety data regularly. Provide education and training on quality improvement methodologies, patient safety principles, and regulatory requirements. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate day-to-day adverse event management, review safety event reports, and conduct analyses. Identify sentinel events and coordinate sentinel event analyses; work with the Patient/Family Relations department on safety issues. Refer cases to CRICO as directed and assist with materials for defense. Ensure alignment with Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals and monitor emerging trends in patient safety. Manage reporting of adverse events to regulatory agencies and support unannounced surveys. Assist with on-site regulatory agency visits and reporting requirements related to safety and device failures. Review aggregate safety events and claims data to identify high-risk activities and departments; recommend corrective actions. Collaborate with CRICO and hospital improvement teams on interventions; transfer current patient safety concepts throughout the organization. Provide staff education on patient safety, non-punitive reporting, and error prevention. Support presentations to board committees and leadership groups; participate in patient safety and risk assessments and meetings.
