The Director of Workforce, Career, and Experiential Learning provides visionary leadership for Finger Lakes Community College’s initiatives in workforce development, career and technical education (CTE), and experiential learning, encompassing internships, externships, domestic field studies, and study abroad to ensure students gain meaningful real-world and intercultural experiences. The Director collaborates with faculty, staff, business and industry leaders, government agencies, international organizations, and funding partners to design innovative programs, secure and manage grants, and deliver opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers, foster global engagement, and advance the region’s economic vitality. Educational Background: Master’s degree in education, workforce development, business administration, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in workforce development, career education, applied learning, or global initiatives within higher education or a related sector. Proven experience in developing workforce training programs in collaboration with industry partners. Strong understanding of career and technical education (CTE), adult education, and economic development. Experience managing budgets, securing grants, and working with external funding sources. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and global engagement. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. Preferred: Experience in a community college setting. Familiarity with workforce funding models, apprenticeship programs, and industry partnerships. Experience leading international education and global initiatives. Knowledge of labor market trends, emerging workforce needs, and industry certifications. Special Skills: Supervisory experience; knowledge of student retention best practices; experience with grant implementation, reporting and management; ability to prepare and analyze statistical reports and budgets; strong counseling, curriculum/program development, writing, and organizational skills. Leadership and Strategy
Design and implement a comprehensive vision for workforce training that aligns with the college’s mission and strategic goals, ensuring adults in the service area have accessible opportunities for career advancement through targeted training and upskilling. Oversee the development and implementation of workforce and career training programs that respond to labor market needs, emerging industries, and employer demands. Provide leadership for applied learning initiatives, including internships, apprenticeships, service learning, and experiential education. Foster global engagement by developing international partnerships, study abroad programs, and cross-cultural learning opportunities. Workforce, Career, and Community Education
Collaborate with business and industry leaders to identify workforce development needs and create customized training programs. Develop non-credit workforce training programs that align with industry-recognized certifications, credentials, and pathways to credit-bearing programs. Conduct labor market analysis to assess workforce trends, employer demands, and skills gaps in key industries. Develop advisory councils with industry representatives to ensure programs align with current and future employer needs. Engage in regional economic development efforts to support business expansion and job creation. Develop strategies to leverage public-private partnerships for workforce training and student success. Promote tuition assistance and employer-sponsored education programs to make workforce training accessible to community members. Support career training initiatives and secure and manage external funding, including grants and contracts. Secure grants to offset institutional and student costs for programs in high-demand fields. Collaborate with the Adult Education Coordinator to develop inclusive, accessible, diverse educational programs for the broader community, including youth, adults, and seniors. Consult with the Adult Education Coordinator to conduct needs assessments and partner with local organizations to identify service gaps and create relevant learning opportunities. Recruit and manage a diverse team of community educators, volunteers, and subject matter experts with training aligned to adult learning principles. Develop and implement community outreach strategies to promote programs and increase participation using traditional and digital tools. Experiential Education and Career Services
Oversee expansion of experiential learning opportunities, including internships, cooperative education, service learning, undergraduate research, field studies, work-based learning, apprenticeships, and project-based learning. Strengthen partnerships with employers and community organizations to create robust internship, apprenticeship, and work-based learning programs. Oversee development of international education programs, including study abroad, exchange programs, and global partnerships. Support faculty and staff in developing globally focused curricula and initiatives, including field studies, externships, study abroad, and other opportunities. Facilitate faculty exchange opportunities with international institutions to encourage cross-cultural collaboration. Identify and apply for funding to expand experiential and global education programs. Work with internal stakeholders to measure the impact of experiential education initiatives on student success and career readiness. Promote diversity, inclusion, and global competencies among students and faculty. Ensure alignment of experiential and global education activities with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and risk management. Oversee exchange programs and reciprocal partnerships with global institutions in consultation with the Associate Provost of Curriculum and Instruction. Provide leadership for comprehensive career services, including career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, and job placement support. Establish and maintain partnerships with regional employers to create employment opportunities aligned with students’ programs and career goals. Monitor career services outcomes and student satisfaction using data to enhance programming and employer engagement. Administration and Operations
Supervise and develop faculty and staff within the workforce, applied learning, career services, and global initiatives offices. Collaborate with the Applied Learning office to align workforce and transfer needs with program advisory boards. Organize networking events, career fairs, and employer panels to expose students to opportunities. Seek grant opportunities to develop relevant programs for the FLCC service area. Manage budgets, resources, and processes to ensure program effectiveness and fiscal sustainability. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to oversight areas. Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Work Environment
Occasional travel for industry engagement, workforce development meetings, and global education partnerships. Evening and weekend work may be required to support workforce and career training programs. Benefits and Salary Range
Competitive starting salary in the range of $72,809 to $76,449, commensurate with qualifications.
