Overview
Public Policy and Community Relations Director – (1774) This role develops local advocacy strategies, positions CoreSite on key issues, and advises cross-functional leaders on local matters including legislative priorities, political environment, and public sentiment related to data centers. The Director works to build trust with local leaders and communities to create a favorable local public policy environment for CoreSite and its customers, supporting sustainable, long-term growth. This role collaborates with the Vice President of Marketing and Sales Development, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, and Senior Vice President of Corporate Development to define and execute CoreSite's local public policy strategies, communications programs, and regulatory engagement across the U.S. Responsibilities
Partner with Marketing, Legal, and Corporate Development to build CoreSite’s Public Policy and Community Engagement function. Coordinate with American Tower’s Public Affairs Team for alignment and best practices. Direct and support strategic local regulatory and community engagement plans to advance business objectives in CoreSite markets. Research and monitor current and emerging policy issues; determine company strategies, priorities, and risks with internal teams. Develop strategies to influence policy objectives; engage with state and local governments to advance CoreSite’s public policy interests. Collaborate with corporate development, legal, construction, finance, operations, and other teams on local issues; support pre-development processes, assess policy drivers, public sentiment, and media coverage; pursue local tax incentives and funding programs for data center development with permitting and zoning authorities. Develop and direct communication strategies to engage with community leaders in existing and new CoreSite markets. Manage contract lobbyists, association memberships, and coalition partnerships. Research industry trends and incorporate insights into messaging for cross-functional teams. Regularly analyze performance against goals and report to marketing and cross-functional leaders. Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thrive in a hybrid work environment with at least two onsite days per week. Travel up to 25% of the time to CoreSite markets and regional meetings/hearings; in-office presence may vary with business needs. Strong written and verbal communication with diverse audiences, including senior government officials and executives. Experience in government relations, economic development, or community engagement. Ability to represent business interests before government officials. Creative and analytical thinking to understand complex issues and develop clear action plans. Experience with policies related to data centers, AI, tax policy, energy, and sustainability. Experience handling contract lobbyists; internal lobbying experience preferred. High political savvy and ability to connect with customers and communities. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred. IT and B2B experience preferred. 7–10 years of hands-on experience in government relations, economic development, or community engagement. Base salary: $175,000 – $190,000 annually. Eligible for annual bonus and equity, based on individual and company performance. Posting Timeline
