What You Get To Do
As a key member of the Senior Leadership team, the Vice President of Design & Engineering will shape the future of United Parks & Resorts. You’ll provide executive-level oversight, expert guidance, and strategic technical leadership, directly impacting the design and engineering of attractions, facilities, and guest experiences. This role leads a talented team and drives innovation to support the growth and success of the organization. Ensure strict adherence to established project budgets & schedules and all company policies and procedures Efficiently manage external designers, architectural and engineering consultants, vendors, and construction industry professionals Provide leadership, management, and direction for all areas of the Design & Engineering department Develop the park’s strategic plan with a focus on capital investment in attractions, facilities, and infrastructure improvements Plan and implement all capital improvement projects in accordance with the park’s capital investment plan Oversee scheduling, document preparation, permitting, bidding, contract negotiation and construction administration for capital projects Serve as park liaison to the Corporate Attraction group and manage major project development phases Oversee consultants’ design work to ensure compliance with standards and schedules Monitor construction to ensure compliance with design intent, budgets, schedules, safety, and environmental initiatives Serve as a key park technical resource for code compliance, infrastructure, safety, and other engineering issues Ensure adherence to capital policies and procedures Develop and administer the Design & Engineering department expense budget Provide motivation, direction, coaching, and performance feedback to D&E staff, ambassadors, and vendors What It Takes To Succeed
A Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is required At least ten years’ experience managing multiple and complex commercial construction projects Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Highly motivated, strategic, and creative individuals Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to adapt communications Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective plans and risk mitigation strategies Understanding of contractual legal and commercial terms and ability to leverage to avoid claims Effective leadership of a diverse group of design, engineering, and construction professionals Working understanding of critical path schedules and high-level cost estimate evaluations Technical knowledge of architecture, building systems and utilities, and construction methods Highly Preferred: Master’s degree, professional license in architecture or engineering, theme park project management experience Physical And Work Requirements
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with arms; kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed Extensive walking and standing; climb or ascend heights if required Stand for prolonged periods Perform kneeling, squatting, bending, overhead reaching, and fine manual tasks Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, and temperature extremes; high noise levels Ability to work with cleaning chemicals; flexibility in work locations based on business needs Availability
Available to work varying shifts based on park hours, including opening and closing shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. The Perks Of The Position
