Assistant Director of Student Development, UICOM-Rockford- Urban Health Program Location: Chicago, IL USA Position Summary
The University of Illinois College of Medicine (UI COM) seeks an Assistant Director of Student Development to advance health equity and diversity in the physician workforce by providing holistic support for students underrepresented in medicine and first-generation college graduates. The role partners with UHP staff across UI COM campuses and Rockford’s Office of Student Affairs on projects related to inclusiveness, belonging, and community engagement. The selected candidate will develop and administer programs aligned with the College’s mission and Urban Health Program (UHP). Duties & Responsibilities
Schedule one-on-one meetings with UI COM UHP students to discuss academic progress and performance. Provide support through academic intervention and remediation, learning programs, academic survival workshops, retreats, and counseling. Tailor resources to student learning styles and educational needs. Support incoming Rockford-bound medical students participating in the UI COM UHP Summer Pre-matriculation Program (SPP). Lead education-based initiatives that promote cultural competency and health equity awareness. Develop and deliver academic workshops on topics such as academic success strategies, career development, community engagement, research, and scholarship opportunities. Provide academic intervention for medical students in remediation. Organize programs for medical career exposure opportunities. Collaborate with Rockford’s Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on related projects. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, student affairs, nursing, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education academic advising; experience in a medical school is preferred. Experience working with diverse medical or professional students. Commitment to helping students achieve personal and academic success. Demonstrated experience developing and/or implementing diversity and inclusion programming.
