Overview

Medical Coder Auditor role at Sierra7, Inc. The Auditor will support the Department of Veterans Affairs in inpatient and/or outpatient coding audits. The Auditor will have expertise in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS, and will serve as an expert on current coding conventions and guidelines related to professional and facility coding, performing audits of encounters to identify areas of non-compliance in coding. This is a part-time opportunity, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, scheduled at your discretion from Monday through Sunday. Responsibilities

Applies comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, disease processes, treatment modalities, diagnostic tests, medications, procedures, and the principles of health services to ensure proper code selection. Reviews codes from ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS for accuracy and completeness. Applies guidelines specific to certain diagnoses, procedures, and other criteria used to classify patients within programs such as the Veterans Equitable Resource Allocation (VERA) by categorizing clinical conditions and resource needs. Monitors regulatory and policy requirements affecting coded information across the full spectrum of VA services. Assists facility staff with documentation requirements to accurately reflect patient care. Reviews, analyzes, and reports performance monitors for PTF, PCE, VERA, and Non-VA Medical Care (purchased care) coding; prepares summaries and communicates findings to leadership. Requirements

Audit accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes, MS-DRG, POA status, and discharge dispositions for inpatient records. Improve overall data quality, completeness, and accuracy of coded data; provide ongoing education to the patient care team on coding concepts. Perform audits of coded data, develop criteria, collect data, analyze results, create reports, and communicate findings to appropriate leadership. Collaborate with coding and clinical staff to provide support and education on coding issues; research complex coding issues and participate in process improvements. Analyze audit results and provide feedback and recommendations for coders and clinicians; offer coding consultation as needed. Requires six additional months of creditable experience equivalent to a MRT (Coder). Education & Experience

An associate’s degree or higher in Health Care. Minimum of 5 years of coding/auditing experience. One year of creditable experience with knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health record structure/format. At least two (2) years of VA or other relevant coding experience, either as a VA employee or with a Government contractor supporting the VA. Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, scheduled at your discretion from Monday through Sunday. Certifications

Apprentice/Associate level Certification through AHIMA or AAPC. Mastery Level Certification through AHIMA or AAPC. Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification through AHIMA or ACDIS. Note:
