We are currently looking for an Oil & Gas Tax Manager based out of our
Houston, TX office . You will work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, supervise/mentor staff, and build/maintain relationships with clients. Reviewing tax compliance and advisory services for energy sector clients, with a focus on upstream (E&P) oil and gas partnerships Managing client engagements from planning to completion, ensuring efficiency and budget adherence Advising on complex tax matters, including IDC, tax depletion, depreciation, and E&P-specific deductions Staying ahead of industry tax changes, researching and analyzing legislative updates Developing and implementing tax strategies to ensure compliance and optimizing client outcomes Identifying business opportunities and recommending additional services for client growth Collaborating with external advisors, including attorneys and financial professionals, on client matters Providing tax advisory on transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and restructuring Conducting tax research, preparing memoranda, and applying technical expertise to complex issues Reviewing and preparing income tax provisions, documenting uncertain tax positions Assisting clients with federal and state tax audits, managing negotiations and compliance risk Leading and mentoring team members, providing guidance, training, and career development Managing engagement resources and deadlines, ensuring projects run efficiently Supporting recruiting, retention, and team-building initiatives to strengthen the firm’s culture Delivering internal and external training on technical tax issues and industry best practices Participating in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, JD or a Master of Science in Taxation preferred CPA license At least 5 years of prior experience in a public accounting tax department, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff; upstream (E&P) oil and gas client experience preferred Exceptional client service and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a fast-paced, results-based environment Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, with excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills with attention to detail Proficiency in tax software, such as GoSystems, BNA Income Tax Planner, and Checkpoint Hands-on experience with review and preparation of forms and schedules for individuals, corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, and state returns Strong research and compliance skills Ability to travel as needed Note: This position may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements.
