Overview

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville Chief of Staff, Medicine Service. The successful candidate will serve as a Hematology/Oncology Physician within the Hematology/Oncology Section. The incumbent will ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, and compliance with accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program. The incumbent will ensure appropriate use of available resources and will be responsible for state-of-the-art standards of care. The incumbent collaborates with other services as appropriate. The Hematologist/Oncologist is accountable to the Chief of the Medicine Service for ensuring effective delivery of care in hematology/oncology while meeting and exceeding compliance standards. The physician will provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, including specific H/O clinics, H/O procedures, and inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care services. The incumbent will provide patient education and feedback to patients and families and will demonstrate excellence in patient care and compliance standards. The physician will evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for all H/O patients under their care, provide consultative evaluations for other services, and perform administrative tasks as assigned. The incumbent is expected to provide compassionate, effective patient care and to coordinate treatment plans with other inpatient and outpatient health care providers. Responsibilities

Administrative Duties:

Attend required staff meetings, communicate up and down the chain of command, and assist in preparing briefings related to adverse patient outcomes. Clinical Management:

Contribute to clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, and process improvements (system redesigns). Clinical Duties:

Maintain privileges and practice in medical services; privileges and procedures for the physician will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. Clinical Practice:

Provide patient care in hematology/oncology in inpatient and outpatient settings, including clinics and procedures; coordinate with other services as needed; deliver education to patients and families; document clinical notes (Consult H&Ps, clinic notes, procedure notes); communicate treatment plans with consult-requesting providers. Privileges include the ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients referred to the H/O Section using pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, and procedure-based therapies. Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy); Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree from an approved school; Current, full and unrestricted medical license in the United States or District of Columbia; Residency training approved by VA and leading to board eligibility; VA requires possible board certification for faculty status in academic training programs; Proficiency in spoken and written English; May be required to serve a probationary period; Background/security investigation; Online onboarding; Acceptable identification per I-9 requirements; Must pass pre-employment physical examination; Seasonal influenza vaccination program participation is required for all VA Health Care Personnel. Must be board certified or board eligible. Education:

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent; education from LCME-accredited or AOA-accredited schools, or ECFMG verification for foreign medical graduates as applicable. Note:
