Director of Data Science & Machine Learning
As Director of Data Science & ML, you’ll lead the full greenfield build of our credit infrastructure—designing from scratch to establish credit automation, scalable decisioning, portfolio optimization and predictive systems. You’ll architect and deploy a credit scoring engine from the ground up, blending data science and engineering to model, code, and ship solutions that shape underwriting, offer generation, and collections. This role demands a builder’s mindset, strategic lens, and cross-functional execution across the lending lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Build and lead a high-performing data science team focused on credit risk, underwriting, and collections optimization
Define the vision and roadmap for data science initiatives aligned with business goals
Design and deploy machine learning models (e.g., LightGBM, Logistic Regression, Hazard Models) to automate loan offers, risk scoring, and early delinquency detection
Develop custom scorecards and refine credit policies to improve origination volume while maintaining risk thresholds
Collaborate with our bank line (CIBC) to prepare analytics for the borrowing base, and lead the development of models that dynamically and accurately calculate borrowing capacity over time
Apply advanced analytics to automate and enhance asset eligibility assessments for collateral, including predictive modeling to evaluate account collectability
Lead experimentation and A/B testing to validate model performance and business impact
Create prioritization algorithms to optimize application queues and underwriting workflows
Implement dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., PowerBI) to monitor model performance and portfolio risk
Drive measurable improvements in processing time, approval rates, and delinquency reduction
Stay ahead of industry trends in AI, ML, and fintech risk modeling
Qualifications
Experience leading data science teams focused on credit risk, underwriting, or collections optimization
Proven track record designing and deploying machine learning models for credit-related decisions
Ability to translate business goals into analytics roadmaps and deliver measurable impact
Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional partners (e.g., risk, engineering, product, banking partners)
