School Bus Driver (Head Start) - Transporation Join to apply for the School Bus Driver (Head Start) - Transporation role at Lee's Summit R-7 School District Purpose: The job of Bus Driver is to provide support within the student transportation services area with responsibilities for ensuring students are safely, efficiently and timely transported over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; operating vehicle safely; keeping the vehicle in safe operating condition; and ensuring student safety during transport, loading and unloading from buses. School Year: 2025-26, 132 days/year, 8 hours/day (Monday-Thursday). Reports to the Assistant Director of Transportation. Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Maintain and enforce safe and appropriate behavior of all riders in accordance with established guidelines to ensure passenger safety. Memorize student names and associate names with faces to ensure safe, correct and timely transportation of students. Make timely, efficient and correct decisions with little to no supervision to meet the needs of students while ensuring safety. Safely maneuver the school bus through confined streets and unfamiliar areas. Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, parents and other staff to maintain a safe, compassionate environment, including implementing behavior and bus plans for students. Interact in a positive manner with students and model appropriate behavior. Maintain confidentiality of student records and information. Recognize, evaluate and respond to incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergencies; resolve or recommend resolutions. Train and work with students and passengers to encourage safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergencies. Attend meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc., to stay up to date on required knowledge. Inform school personnel and parents of events, policies and procedures (e.g., stops, routes, conditions) for information or clarification. Maintain a clean, sanitary school bus environment for passenger safety. Perform daily pre-trip inspections; regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation for passenger comfort; comply with local traffic regulations; report delays or accidents; complete required student reports in a timely manner. Follow all oral and written instructions from supervisors and dispatchers. Other Functions

Operate specialized routes; flexibility to changes in assignments with little to no notice; exceptional attendance. Work with students with behavior, medical, ambulatory and other special needs; manage daily stressors; provide escort services as required; operate specialized equipment (e.g., wheelchair lifts); safely utilize child safety restraint systems (CSRS). Operate in stand-by capacity: familiarity with district streets, loading/unloading operations district-wide, exceptional student management, staying calm in high-stress situations, ability to operate safely in unfamiliar areas with little support, shift between assignments with little notice, extended hours, operate all buses, serve as Bus Aide when needed. Operate Field/Activity trips and other non-route assignments: familiar with surrounding areas, capable of long hours, highway speeds, and safe decision making. Performs other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Certificates & Licenses: Commercial Driver’s License Class B with endorsements for Passenger Vehicles, School Bus and Air Brake; CPR/First Aid.
