Overview

The Tomorrow.io R&D Team is a mix of scientists and engineers committed to generating the best and most novel data and models across historical, real-time and forecast. The story begins when data hits our ingest and post-processing services. Every product that the user sees is the result of a pipeline of algorithms that is run quickly and continuously. We are the team that builds the architecture behind the data and the models, to prepare the weather analyses for the Product and Engineering teams to serve to the masses. We’re looking for a

Meteorological Data Scientist

to validate and quality control AI model data. This role requires a mind for meteorological data. The candidate will dive into AI model and sensor data, performing validations, quality assurance and control, and producing product prototypes. You will use

AI to generate, compile, and troubleshoot

software components as part of the native development flow. You’ll also

work hands-on with state of the art AI weather models

from Tomorrow.io and our partners. This is not about incremental AI integration — this is about

implementing and troubleshooting the frameworks that let AI scale atmospheric models 10x faster and smarter . What You’ll Do

Perform validations of

AI weather models and products . Develop

data visualizations, validation, and statistical analyses

of meteorological data products. Partner closely with

Weather Science, Weather Applications, Bespoke Solutions,

and Space and Sensor teams

to troubleshoot performance of models and observation data. Use

AI tools and model data

to produce new product prototypes for scientists and end users. Work with

Accounts and Customer Teams

to produce customer-focused validations and value propositions for Tomorrow.io meteorological data; interfacing with customers as needed. What You Bring

A Passion for meteorology — A degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology is required. 3+ years of experience as a meteorological data scientist or operational weather forecaster (with demonstrated experience with code) Strong hands-on skills with scientific code (e.g., Node.js, Python), using common packages for: Data processing and analysis (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, xarray, or equivalent). API and service development (e.g., FastAPI, Express, or similar). Statistical analysis and validation. Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure services, including data storage, serverless compute, and messaging (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Functions/Run, Pub/Sub). Familiarity with weather and geospatial data formats (NetCDF, GRIB, GeoJSON, METAR, TAF). Solid understanding of data architecture and pipelines, including working with structured and unstructured datasets. Proven experience integrating and operationalizing

AI-assisted development tools

(e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) into scientific and engineering workflows. Experience with integrating

AI-assisted communication

of weather information (chatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, etc) into workflows. Curious mindset — Think deeply about why meteorological data works the way it does, and how to probe for the most logically consistent outcomes. Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally and in customer-facing roles. If you have reached this point and you are super excited but not sure you check all the boxes - we still want to speak with you! Your passion is priceless. Other things can be learned.
