Overview
Head of Tax, US & Americas to join Standard Chartered Bank in NY. The role oversees US and Americas tax strategy, compliance, risk management and regulatory relationships aligned to the Bank's objectives and risk appetite. Responsibilities
Strategy – Manage US & Americas tax affairs in alignment with the commercial strategy, while building long-term shareholder value and maintaining the Bank's reputation with tax authorities and regulators. Strategy – Understand and contribute to the US & Americas business strategy and advocate for tax policy changes that are sustainable with minimal compliance costs. Business – Oversee external advisers for tax matters and reporting, partnering with the Business Tax team; sign off on tax aspects of material approvals and ensure impact assessments for tax changes are communicated to stakeholders. Business – Collaborate with Business units to promote tax planning opportunities, assess tax changes with material impact, and support business growth within tax risk appetite. Governance – Manage governance for US & Americas direct & indirect taxes; ensure compliance with applicable laws, anti-money laundering, sanctions, and the Group Code of Conduct; escalate and mitigate risk and compliance matters. People & Talent – Lead and develop the tax team, set objectives, provide feedback, and foster continuous learning; collaborate with Tax GPO on development plans; ensure succession planning and training for critical roles. Additional Responsibilities – Risk Management: control tax risks, manage Tax Risk and Operational Framework, support tax risk reporting to Risk Committees, and manage tax controversy and relationships with tax authorities; Additional Responsibilities – FATCA and US withholding: oversee RFO/2nd Line of Defence responsibilities, engage with process owners, and ensure annual information reporting compliance for US entities. Tax Reporting & Forecasting – Ensure timely quarterly tax reporting, forecast the group’s effective tax rate, manage tax reporting for branches and subsidiaries, and ensure compliance with statutory timelines. Transfer Pricing – Collaborate with Transfer Pricing to implement TP methodologies, manage TP risks, and support group cost recharges; maintain governance under the Operational Risk Framework. Regulatory & Business Conduct – Display ethics and compliance with laws and Group Code of Conduct; lead the team to meet Conduct Principles and manage risk, conduct and compliance matters. Regulatory & Business Conduct – Supervisory responsibilities apply; uphold supervisory principles in daily operations. Qualifications
Licensed CPA or attorney with tax accounting experience. Minimum 12 years of international taxation experience, preferably with US group taxation and inbound US tax experience for financial institutions. Oversight of US tax accounting, compliance, and reporting; strong stakeholder management and ability to communicate complex issues clearly. Leadership experience with cross-functional process teams and a robust control environment; skilled at working with tax authorities during audits. Experience managing a diverse global tax team and partnering with outside advisors; high attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across functions and locations. What We Offer
