Our team pairs technology with grantmaking to translate learning science into classroom practice, with a focus on AI-enabled education and evaluation of AI systems in collaboration with subject-matter experts. The Opportunity

Education is building foundational infrastructure that ensures the quality of AI systems used in classrooms. Our Evaluators team builds tools that evaluate the quality and educational relevance of the output of LLMs and other AI systems. As the Senior Manager, Data Science and Software Engineering for our Evaluators team, you will lead a team of data scientists, software engineers, and ML engineers who build and maintain our evaluators, partnering with product management and external collaborators to measure the educational suitability of AI systems. What You'll Do

Manage the team of data scientists, software engineers, and ML engineers, including accountability, performance management, and hiring to grow the team Drive an iterative, agile mindset and set the bar for engineering and process excellence Define and execute the team's technical strategy as we scale Partner with product management to define and execute the product roadmap Collaborate with internal and external partners to expand the scope of evaluation What You'll Bring

5 or more years of people management experience with a focus on engineering and process excellence Experience managing data scientists and software engineers A passion for innovation and rapid iteration Experience leading teams in scaling environments, thriving in ambiguity and leading through change A business-driven approach that prioritizes customer needs Experience in AI/ML Deep interest in measuring the quality of LLMs Compensation

Redwood City, CA base pay range for a new hire in this role is $241,000.00 - $362,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, with placement based on job-related skills and experience. Work Mode

This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence of at least 60% of the working month (approximately 3 days a week). Specific in-office days are determined by the team manager and communicated during the interview process. Benefits
