Location: Glenview, Illinois. Business Unit: Rush Medical Group. Hospital: Rush University Medical Center. Department: Lung Center Svc Line. Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE 0.9–1.0). Shift: Shift 1. Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
The Medical Assistant Lead is responsible for the daily management and direct supervision of clinic staff. The MA Lead assists physicians, mid-level practitioners, and registered nurses with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The MA assumes responsibility for maintaining patient flow, the upkeep of exam and treatment rooms, and performing basic skills such as vital signs and point-of-care testing. The MA will administer intramuscular injections, immunizations, small volume nebulizer treatment, and over-the-counter medications under the direction of a physician. Required Job Qualifications
Current Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA (includes principles and techniques of injections and medication administration).
Current CPR certification
High school diploma/GED required.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
One year of clinical experience
Phlebotomy experience

Responsibilities
Participates in recruitment efforts with interviewing, and hiring direct reports
Coordinates onboarding and off-boarding of clinic staff
Schedules clinic staff assignments to ensure adequate coverage and equal distribution of work and effort
Establishes course of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed effectively and efficiently
Provides training and mentorship to direct reports
Provides education to staff in the clinic
Conducts annual performance reviews in conjunction with manager
Provides timely guidance and feedback to help others improve knowledge/skill areas
Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory bodies within area of responsibility
Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow
Performs patient intake including vital signs, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required
Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit
Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures
Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit
Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit
Performs basic lab and testing procedures according to standards
Performs phlebotomy and EKGs
Administers immunizations as ordered by the physician
Administers Rush University Medical Center-approved intramuscular or subcutaneous medications after competency assessment
Performs tuberculin skin testing upon order of the physician
Demonstrates population-specific techniques with patients
Documents administration of medications in the medical record per policy
Prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations
Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a physician
Calls in medical refills under the direction of a physician or protocol
Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards
Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments
Assists in care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments
Maintains inventory of medical and linen supplies
Maintains quality control for equipment
Provides cross-coverage to other clinical areas as assigned
Participates in quality improvement projects
Maintains compliance with Joint Commission standards and other regulatory bodies
Other duties as assigned
