Associate Director, Digital Product Design
Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for all people. PPFA supports independently operated Planned Parenthood affiliates and advocates for sexual and reproductive health issues. This role reports to the Senior Director, Product Management in the External Affairs Division of PPFA. Purpose The Associate Director, Digital Product Design leads Digital Strategy teams through the adoption of Product Design systems, applying a user-centered approach to product discovery that contributes to the team’s strategy. Ensures Product Designers can independently research and identify core user needs within the health care and education journey, while collaborating across multiple interdisciplinary product teams to launch new user experiences. Engagement Contributes to the broader Digital User Experience program strategy. Acts as a strategic thought leader and influencer among Digital Strategy leadership, product managers, and engineering leadership to ensure initiatives align with the Product Design program and frameworks. Manages and mentors a team of two Product Designers, empowering them to support the Product Design program across Digital Strategy initiatives. Advises and partners with peers and senior colleagues within PPFA and affiliates. Manages vendors to provide tools and/or consulting services to PPFA. Delivery Responsible for strategic execution of programmatic design systems across the Digital Strategy ecosystem, enabling the Product Design team to deliver across the Digital Strategy portfolio. Maintain Accessible Design System — organize structure and relationships of content to match user categories (e.g., site maps, service blueprints, readability). User Research — collaborate with the User Research team to execute research and testing plans, including in-person and remote engagement, synthesizing insights for Digital Strategy and PPFA stakeholders. User Experience Design — define the user experience within the PPFA digital ecosystem with data-driven personas, patient journey maps, logic flows, wireframes, and concise product copy. Visual Design — advance accessible design patterns and themes, including design frameworks and assets. Interaction Design — develop prototypes and motion tests to help users and product teams understand features before development investment. Product Design Socialization — lead cross-product evolution of Interaction Design patterns across the PP digital ecosystem and promote PPFA’s design language beyond the Product Design team. Design Thinking — champion design thinking and human-centered digital innovation within Digital Strategy and across PPFA, uplifting Product Designers and design peers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. 4-7 years of experience designing and launching scalable end-to-end digital experiences. 1-2 years demonstrated record of leading implementation of product design programming and project management. Strong product design portfolio with emphasis on accessibility, minimalism, and clarity across digital formats (websites and mobile apps). 3-5 years experience with product design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, Figma) and prototyping tools like Principal. 3-5 years experience working with brand standards. 3-5 years proven experience designing, conducting, and synthesizing lean user research.
