Overview
We are looking for you to join our team as an Engineering Manager level 1 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This role is responsible for engineering leadership and technical direction to Marine Systems specializing in the development, manufacture, assembly and testing of propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate will apply their skills to support current and future Navy Power & Propulsion Turbomachinery development with an integrated engineering team consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, Aerothermal, Acoustics, Structural and Systems Engineers. The manager will develop and lead a group of engineers through the entire product lifecycle for complex hardware products to support the U.S. Navy. Responsibilities include management of timekeeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated aptitude in requirements and interface management and verification, design of fabricated and machined components, design of electrical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic subsystems, CAD modeling / drawing review, and successful execution of technical projects to cost and schedule targets. Responsibilities
Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group. Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for internal and external customers. Increase machinery design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring. Balance employee needs with business goals. Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group. Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process. Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 5 years of engineering experience; or a Master\'s Degree in STEM with 3 years of engineering experience. Experience in functional/people management. Ability to work onsite at Sunnyvale, CA for a minimum of 4 days per week. US Citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other leadership role related to program execution (preferred). Experience with requirements and interface management and verification; design of fabricated and machined components, or design of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic subsystems. Technical project management experience with proven successful execution of technical projects to cost and schedule targets. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) (preferred). Understanding of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities. Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions to support management and engineering tasks. Experience with proposals and Earned Value Management (EVM). Additional Details
