Overview

The Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer - Sustainability at SharkNinja supports development of environmentally advanced consumer products. This role requires a hands-on engineer with deep understanding of energy efficiency and sustainable material technologies, capable of prototyping in the lab and analyzing test results, and able to collaborate cross-functionally to bring sustainable products to market. Responsibilities

Actively support the development of sustainable consumer products by identifying lower impact opportunities and using hands-on design, testing, and problem solving to demonstrate feasibility. Investigate and identify commercially available and next generation technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce product carbon footprints. Collaborate daily with Engineering and Product Development teams to progress understanding of systems, environmental performance levers, and tradeoffs. Bring together team members from other disciplines to brainstorm, solve problems, build proof-of-concept prototypes, and test them thoroughly. Work closely with and guide co-ops and interns. Contribute to bringing products to market (retail, online, infomercials) with a reduced carbon footprint. Qualifications

BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering. 5+ years of related design and development experience. Proven ability to bring energy efficiency and environmentally responsible technologies into innovative products. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem solving. Effective communication skills to explain principles, synthesize data, and make design recommendations to technical and non-technical colleagues. Awareness of global eco legislation for consumer products and how to future-proof products through design. Laboratory experience with test equipment and instrumentation; ability to conduct controlled experiments on designed systems. Proficient CAD user (SolidWorks or CREO). Proficiency in Excel, Python, or Matlab (or similar) to synthesize test data into actionable learnings. Ability to foster meaningful professional relationships within a team; in-person collaboration at Needham, MA office. Preferred Attributes

Experience in applied R&D for a consumer product company or a consultancy. Experience with electronics (analog/digital), sensors, motors, heaters, PCBs, etc. Understanding of applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Experience designing and executing experimental test plans to guide design decisions. Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining longer-term goals.
