About The Team The Database Engineering Team designs, builds, maintains, and supervises database infrastructure to meet Workday’s data needs with high availability. We work on databases on Private and Public Cloud Platforms, focusing on high-availability, clustering, security, performance, and scalability. We seek individuals with strong backend development experience in database-as-a-service and Open Source technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL, and other cloud-native databases. The ideal candidate thrives in an open, collaborative peer environment and has experience designing, developing, and managing enterprise-grade database systems with complex interdependencies. About The Role This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government, which requires that all Workday personnel on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native). Responsibilities Architect, design, develop, and manage DBaaS services for Workday Database Infrastructure Design and develop APIs to improve the availability, scalability, and performance of databases across multiple clouds Write APIs and dashboards to measure database KPIs Maintain observability for database monitoring and implement auto-remediation techniques Provide support for large-scale database instances across production, non-production, and development environments Serve in an on-call rotation to support database infrastructure Collaborate with service and performance teams for continuous architecture improvements, resiliency, and performance About You Basic Qualifications 6+ years in designing/developing/automating and managing mission-critical production workloads on MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL, and other cloud-native databases 3+ years backend development experience (Golang, Python, Java) including architecture, design, and development 4+ years hands-on experience with cloud hyperscalers (AWS, Google Cloud, and/or Microsoft Azure) 2+ years experience managing clustered, highly-available database services on Linux 5+ years working with modern DevOps technologies and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), service deployment, monitoring, and scaling Familiarity with AWS GovCloud Other Qualifications Knowledge of automation tools such as Terraform, Chef, and Ansible Familiarity with Ceph Storage, Gluster, Orchestrator for MySQL, Percona MHA, Percona Galera, Vitess, Pure Storage Experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR Strong analytical and interpersonal skills Self-starter, highly motivated, quick learner Excellent teamwork and communication skills BS/MS degree in computer science Workday Pay Transparency Statement The annual base salary ranges for primary and additional locations vary by location.
