The Principal Software Engineer, Bluetooth role will be at the forefront of developing state-of-the-art Bluetooth/Wi-Fi solutions for CARIAD’s next-generation automotive platforms. This role is on the base software team supporting the hardware platform development unit. You will collaborate with VW Group technical teams to shape the future of automotive connectivity and ensure seamless integration and excellent user experiences across our vehicle portfolio. Role Responsibilities
Architect and Innovate:
Spearhead the development of robust core Bluetooth/BLE frameworks, tailoring scalable solutions that meet diverse brand requirements and configurations within the VW Group. Leadership in Connectivity:
Drive strategic discussions, offering expert technical guidance on platform connectivity capabilities, innovations, and roadmaps. Lead software development for Base-software (BSP), Driver software, MCAL, Bring-up/Debugging software and diagnostic software. Hands-On Technical Expertise:
Contribute to developing and optimizing Bluetooth/BLE/Wi-Fi sub-systems and components, using deep knowledge of embedded platforms to enhance functionality and performance. Collaboration and Compliance:
Coordinate with related teams to ensure Bluetooth compliance certification, and assist hardware teams in component selection, schematic review, bring-up, testing and debugging. Mentorship and Guidance:
Mentor junior engineers to foster team growth in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi technologies. General Skills
Exceptional documentation, profiling, and debugging skills Strong strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication abilities to enable effective cross-functional collaboration Required Skills
Deep knowledge of automotive software development processes in embedded platforms Experience with software platform development and introduction into mass production Knowledge of connected vehicle infotainment Expert programming in C, C++, Python, Java, HTML5, and scripting languages Deep expertise in Bluetooth/BLE and Wi-Fi stacks across embedded platforms (Android and Linux); familiarity with Bluetooth profiles (Classic, BLE, HFP/HSP, A2DP, BAP, MAP) and Wi-Fi protocols Certification Savvy: Experience with Bluetooth SIG certification and familiarity with core AOSP/AAOS frameworks related to Bluetooth/BLE, Wi‑Fi, and Connectivity Manager Linux and Kernel Development: Experience with Linux platform/kernel development is desirable Years of Relevant Experience
12+ years in Bluetooth/BLE/Wi-Fi frameworks, preferably in automotive 10+ years of software development in HPC embedded environments 5+ years as an Android platform developer with strong C/C++/Java/Kotlin skills Required Education
MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Compensation
Salary range is dependent on location and experience. In Mountain View, California, the range is $194,670 - $282,735, with performance-based merits and annual bonus eligibility. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k with employer match, disability, life insurance, employee assistance, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, and additional programs.
